I was just informed of this earlier, how devastating for the families involved.

I know people who were directly impacted, what a very sad day.
Let's hope they find more survivors.

They have found one person alive and found one body. The rest of the 16 people are still missing. Its sad to say but it doesn't look good. You wouldn't survive too long in the Atlantic this time of year.

They said that all should have been wearing life suits that the purpose is for them to survive in them for 24 hours.

This morning Global was reporting that there were life rafts deployed.

Nevermind - internets is my friends. Strange to find empty rafts.

One of the comments on the CBC article said that they probably auto deployed.
Guy said he used to work for Cougar Helicopters and made some educated guesses about what happened. He said that firstly, everyone is wearing a survival suit when being shuttled to an off shore rig. The suits are supposed to keep you alive for ~24 hours. But his guess as to why the chopper went down resulted in less of a soft landing and more of a "drop like a stone" in which case injuries, serious injuries, were likely just from impact.
Being groggy from hitting the water hard likely resulted in most of the crew sinking with the machine.

The search ended Friday evening for 16 people who had been aboard a helicopter that crashed and sank in frigid waters east of Newfoundland, with grim-faced officials saying there was no chance the passengers were still alive.

My friend just got back from a shift out there and uses those helicopters, she luckily is good friends with the survivor but she also lost a good friend in this accident. She gets called out in the next week or so, can't imagine what she's feeling. Prayers are with those families.
