I spent about 4 days straight in the MGM poker room. Most places have a players card that you swipe when you sit down. Sign up for it (its free). You get comp'd i think $1 per hour you play. We got quite a few 'free' sandwiches and such out of it.

Where are you staying, and what's your game?
I've only ever played at MGM. I play $1/2 No Limit and the games at MGM are super soft. The Poker Room is out in the open, near one of the main entrances, and close to the entrance to Studio 54, so it gets a lot of walk-by traffic, which means a lot of tourists sitting down willing to lose all of their money to you.
If you're any good, you can clean up (play relatively tight, and don't try wild bluffs because so many players are unwilling to fold small pairs or things like that).
I've also heard good things about the Venetian Poker Room, but I usually stay on the south end of the Strip, so MGM is easier to get to.
Excalibur has new electronic tables (no physical cards, everything is done with a touch screen) and offers a $0.50/1 NL game, if you're looking for the smallest stakes.
If you want bigger stakes, Bellagio and The Wynn are the places to go.

Look into the tournaments. I played in a few at Mandalay bay and they were cheap and you can play for a while if you know what you're doing. There are also a few places on Fremont Street that have tournaments.

I went to vegas when I was too young to do much in the way of gambling and whatnot. But we went to see David Copperfield, and he was awesome. Absolutely blew my mind. I would recommend a magic show for sure

We are at the Mirage. Going to Ka on Saturday night. I am not a big casino poker player, as in have never done it. I play regularly at house games. I am interested in the tournaments but don't want to embarass myself too badly.
I found this forum and it had a bunch of good tips for anyone else that is interested:

I spent my 40th in Vegas this summer and got a present from Mr. Sutter on my birthday. It went something like this:
(via Blackberry) TSN ALERT - Calgary Flames sign UFA F Todd Bertuzzi to a 1 year contract.

all IMHO.
Freemont Street Experience - go at night, check out the ole Strip and see the light show.
Stratosphere - go up top and see the Strip. They also have a VERY nice restaurant at the top but make reservations and bring your Platinum AMEX card.
New York, New York is on the corner of busy and busy. Its a cool casino and there's a dueling piano bar in there thats great. Go early as it fills up fast!
TI's go check out the Sirens. Even your wife will be impressed by the free show on the Strip.
If you are shopping. Go to the Outlet mall thats behind the Stratosphere. All name brand stores at VERY reasonable prices.
Best Buffet - is at the RIO and they also do a Seafood buffet.
if you are gambling at your hotel or any hotel for that matter, get a players card. at your hotel charge things to your room and use your players card. its how you get comps.
And if you can, take your wife to the Cirque du Soleil show called Zumanity. After its over, head to your hotel room!

I know it is a given, and I can't see how anybody could NOT discover it on their own, but go see the Fountains of Bellagio. I could spend a couple of hours there watching the fountains.
Somebody mentioned The Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. I second it.
I actually second Sample00's suggestions.
Another free show on the strip, something that takes about 15 minutes at most, is the erupting volcano in front of Mirage.
I love NYNY, spend most of my time gambling and eating there. If you want to get drunk on one of them Margarita By The Yard drinks, get it at Gonzalez Y Gonzalez restaurant in NYNY. It was the cheapest and most potent I've found.
There is a tonne of little free shows/attractions/displays all over the strip.
- Fountains of Bellagio
- Volcano at Mirage
- Lion Habitat at MGM Grand
- Sirens of TI
- Moving statues at Caeser's Palace (may be good if the sound wasn't so loud that you couldn't hear what the statues say)
- Rain Storm in The Miracle Mile Shops in Planet Hollywood (although I'm not sure how this one is still around)
and there is so much more.
If you like cars there is the Ferarri dealership in Wynn, and a car show in one of the malls in one of the resorts, but I can't remember which place... I think it is in the Forum Shops at Caeser's Palace.
How about history? Like the Titanic? There is a Titanic exhibit at Luxor. There is a Bodies exhibit at Luxor as well... if you like to view human bodies.
Sooo much to see and do in Vegas. Once per year just isn't enough for me.
