I've got to "rebuild" my OS partitions... had it set up RAID 5. 3 x 750 Gb. XP and Vista partitioned both seemed to be corrupted. Mobo said RAID was degraded. So I installed XP on the drive it said had an error, seems to be working (outside of RAID). Still have degraded RAID running and data seems to be intact. So rebuild as RAID, or rebuild as three seperate drives and just back stuff up internally/externally?

Not so much that the card is likely to fail, it's just they're cheap and not very powerful, they can actually make things worse depending on what the situation is.
Onboard RAID doesn't have anything in the way of processing power, so any processing for the RAID is done by your CPU. For RAID 0 and RAID 1 it's not a big deal since it's the same piece of data being written once or twice.. but with RAID 5 there's calculations that have to be done with every single bit written.
The question is what's the goal of the RAID. Usually with RAID 5 the goal is redundancy and hot swap, not so much performance. To get any performance benefit from RAID 5 you need a really good dedicated controller ($$) and the more drives the better.
So if your goal is speed, stripe two drives and use the other one as a backup for the more important files. If your goal is redundancy then mirror two drives and use the other one as a scratch drive for stuff you don't mind to lose.
Or you could get one more and go with a RAID 10, which gives the benefits of both worlds but requires twice as many drives as storage space.
Having multiple drives only protects against drive failure, keep that in mind. A surge from a blown power supply could take out all the drives, or a fire could trash the computer.
Personally I have a NAS device in the house, and intend (yeah yeah) to setup some kind of remote storage for the really important stuff. An eSATA drive has filled that roll off and on but it's a pain to remember to take it offsite, so really I want an online solution.

You theoretically could plug any USB-based external HD (I like the Maxtor One-Touch series's myself b/c they don't require an external powerbrick) into a router with USB-network storage capacity (like the WRTSL54GS or whatever).
Then, you have a network drive that doubles as a mobile drive for important backups

I got the Logitech DiNovo Keyboard and Mouse 6 months ago and I love it. Keyboard feels like a laptop keyboard and has a touch mouse built on it if the reg mouse dies and you need to charge.

If you're not gaming, I would recommend a pre-built. They get their parts cheaper, and pass the savings on to youuuuu!
But for gamers or power-users, build your own or have it built. For certain.
