3 top d-men prospects, skilled forwards, and a solid two way performer:

1) Pick #15: Ryan Parent - Defenceman - Guelph Storm

A "three-time captain in international play; he was captain of Team Ontario at the U-17 tournament where he won a gold medal, he wore the ‘C’ for Canada at the U-18 tournament in August of 2004 winning gold again and was selected to play for Canada at the 2005 U18 championships and was captain once again, winning a silver medal. The next international opportunity for Parent could come at the World Junior Championships in Vancouver as he made the short list of summer camp invites for Canada. " -- from ISS ... all that needs to be said.

I traded Straka to St Louis for a shot to grab this guy... and i was ecstatic to land him. He was #1 on my list for the draft.

2) Pick #19: Matt Lashoff- Defenceman - Kitchener Rangers

Was slowed down by some Mononucleosis the last year, but had an outstanding 2003-2004 season. Quick and mobile with good offensive instincts.

Kind of a gamble as he didnt play very well after the mononucleosis, but he has too much skill to pass up on.

3) Pick #30: Jakub Kindl- Defencman - Kitchener Rangers

Came to Canada with a lot of hype and slightly underachieved. But has a ton of upside, especially offensively.

I was planning on taking a forward with this pick, but when he was still available at 30 i could not resist. I took the best player available at the time.

4) Pick #34: Dan Bertram - RW - Boston College

Ultra-hard worker with a scoring touch. Will challenge for scoring title in the NCAA with increased ice time.

A little bit of a homer pick, but that doesnt mean that he is a poor player. I bet he goes around here during the real NHL draft.

5) Pick #64: Paul Stastny - C - University of Denver

WCHA and USCHO Rookie of the Year this past year. A hard working center with immense offensive skill (45pts in 42 games in freshman year). Maybe a bit of a reach at with this pick... but i could not pass upt he offense.

6) Pick #71: Steve Downie - C - Windsor Spitfires
i) 73pts in 61 games - 179 penalty minutes
ii) Has been called a rat that will do anything to win....
iii) A scout said that he should be in the Dub - very gritty and skilled.

This is my darkhorse pick. I can see Sutter drafting a player like this.

Bertram at 34 was a total steal. Well done. You also picked Stastny right before I selected. I was gonna have a hard decision between Stastny or Dustin Kohn - but you made it for me. Good drafting.
