i actually hope if the movie is successful they'll sign those actors on for a TV series. Enterprise was awesome for making a Star Trek series with today's special effects and larger budget, but getting that with writers who know what they're doing would be great

Most of Enterprise was bad, especially the third season, but season four was actually pretty good!

The only enterprise episodes that I liked were the mirror universe enterprise.

Other then that it was a big spoon full of meh topped with uninteresting characters.

A few of you start trek snobs in this thread are really unbelievable.

I am a fan of the franchise overall, and I think that with the sheer amount of episodes over all the series and casts their are understandably going to be some stinkers.

But overall, the philosophy of Star Trek was always what separated it from other Science Fiction series and movies. In large part there was always substance and characters at the base that really made it what it was.

This movie looks great and flashy and it may attract new audiences and be very commercially viable.

Whether or not it's received well by Star Trek fans is going to depend largely on how they treat these characters.

These are some of the most beloved characters in the Star Trek universe, and if there isn't a wealth of intrigue and development with them, trekkies will be very upset.

It may be a good commercial Sci Fi film but hollow Trek.

I'm of course going in hoping it will be both. No sense in cutting it down and going in with a poor attitude because you feel you know and like Star Trek better than the next guy.

Oh no, the trekkies will be upset!

The franchise has been floundering for ages, I think upsetting the trekkies is the best thing that could happen at this point.

It has probably been mentioned in this thread, but the director said that this film's MO will be primarily to get new fans, rather than to appease the old fans. I think that is the best approach.

Thanks for that link!

The entire franchise was the favorite theme of my childhood. I thought after DS9 that everything was dead. Voyager was terrible and Enterprise just just as bad. I've seen about three episodes combined.

I loved First Contact, but hated Insurrection and Nemesis. Especially Nemesis because Data died for a piece of crap movie.

But THIS!!!!....this looks absolutely amazing. The first trailer I thought was wicked and gave me chills, but I literally just stood up and started cheering after that.

Please god let this movie save Star Trek.

I didn't mind Insurrection. Was it amazing? Hell no. Was it as big of a turd as Nemesis or The Final Frontier? I don't think so. Then again with lines like "Smooth as an Android's bottom, eh Data?" I might be in the minority

This new trailer is getting TONS of love.

Quote:
New ‘Star Trek’ trailer: Beam me the frak up, right bloody now

There are some who raise a great hew and cry over J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot, and the more they see, the louder their protestations will get. They’re too young, the Enterprise looks like a flourescent hospital, why is Jim Kirk astro-base-jumping? For them, Star Trek will always be William Shatner, strutting around in those little booties, performing yellow-belt karate chops on aliens dressed like Romans. But for the rest of us — people who can handle a new Battlestar Galactica, a new James Bond every 10 years, and new underpants…

Holy s#!+.

I was never much of a Star Trek guy. Actually aside from watchin the original Star Trek re-runs in the 3rd grade with my old man, and maybe 5-6 Next Generation episodes I saw, I never even watched it. But for some reason I really, really wanna see this.

My feelings is this one will be a flop. Too many Trekkie movies have been made in the past and it will be tough to drum up a lot of excitement with this one. I enjoyed some of the ones in the past, howver I won't be going to see this one. Maybe when it hits the discount bin at Walmart some years down the road.
$150-160m is not that much these days, Pirates of the Caribbean 3 was close to $300m, Spider-Man 3 was $260m. Your feelings are it will flop? My feelings are it can't! Even if the movie gets bad reviews it will make money and lots of it. It'll probably make over $100 million on Blue-ray and DVD sales/rentals alone.

Yeah, $150m is pretty normal for a blockbuster movie these days. Even if it failed domestically ($100m take), it will definitely make up for it on the international level. Not to mention DVD releases and merchandising.

I think one of the strongest points for this movie is the casting and directing. They pulled actors from so many different backgrounds and genres, many of whom have their own followings, that it will bring in audiences from all over the place (in terms of interests).

Zachary Quinto will bring in some Heroes fans.

Simon Pegg will bring in some of his legion of fans (Shaun of the Dead + Hot Fuzz + Run, Fatboy, Run).

John Cho will bring in some from the general comedy genre (everyone who loved the Harold and Kumar movies)

J.J. Abrams has his own legion of fans too after many successes (LOST, Alias, MI:III, Cloverfield)

You have some seasoned and recognizable actors in there such as Karl Urban, Bruce Greenwood, Eric Bana, and Winona Ryder.

Then you have all of Star Trek fans.

There is a lot more buzz around this movie than the previous Star Trek movies, it is getting a lot of coverage in the media.

In my mind, I would be shocked if this movie didn't do well. Paramount is of the same mind. They moved it to the first week of Blockbuster season because they felt it was such a good film that it could make a LOT of money in that spot.

I think Paramount's faith in the movie is best exemplified from moving back a Christmas release date to Summer tent pole May. Also I just saw an ad that said we'd get a preview during Heros. Not sure if its anything new though. Could just be the new trailer.

I am worried that my expectations about this film are way too high cause the trailers have me sold. I guess they are getting my 11 bucks regardless.
