Will she have a car? The only casino (Casino Lac Leamy) is across the river in Gatineau (Hull). It's pretty easy to get to from downtown: Get to the MacDonald-Cartier Bridge and follow the signs.
I've mostly stayed out by Kanata when I've gone, so I don't have any other advice for downtown.

The closest casino to downtown is across the river in Gatineau. It's actually rather nice. The closest thing the city of Ottawa has to a casino is a bunch of slot machines at the racetrack in the far south end of the city.

Its been a few years since I've been there but I recall the military museum was pretty impressive, and actually the mint was kinda cool too. If you're into those kinda of things.

I don't know if you can get the house messy enough in 3 days that she'll never want to leave you alone with the kids again.
But you can try.

Downtown Ottawa, outside of all the bar in the market, there are also bars on Elgin Street (The street straight down from the War Memorial pretty much across from Parliament)...
War Museum is near downtown and the Royal Mint would be cool like Jiri said, there's also the National Art Gallery that's right beside the Royal Mint. There's also skating on the Canal (Would it be open when you are there is a completely different story). Take a peak inside the Chateau Laurier (The hotel across the canal from the parliament).
That's pretty much for downtown. As the casino has already been mentioned.

I think they closed the canal yesterday; it's getting too warm.

Still better than last year when they closed the Canal DURING Winterlude... at least it was cold enough during winterlude this year.

She could go down to the Shawarma place near Mavericks on Bank Street and pick me up a Shawarma. mmmm. I can't find anyone who makes it like they do around here.

- Casino Lac Leamy has partnered with most of the hotels downtown to shuttle people over.
- I'd recommend going back to the Market area just to get and Obama-tail.
- If one goes to the War Museum I'd recommend going with a guide. You really miss a lot of the detail they put into the museum. For example, everything is slanted 11 degrees off on purpose.

Everyone's got a pretty decent idea of what to do. I fly out there for work a few times a year. I refuse to call the beaver tail the Obama tail, but that bakery/cafe he went to while he was in Ottawa is just an amazing/cheap place for great little baked treats. It's just right down in the market, can't remember its name.
As well, I'd try to hit up Question Period in the House. It can be kind of entertaining.

That's Moulin de Provence.
The French Baker on Murray Street is WAY better though. The croissants are absolutely amazing. Try the macarons there also.

There's also a Chinese bakery shop just off Bronson and Somerset; slightly west on Somerset.
It is heavenly....divine.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I think she is going to try to go to the Senators game on Wednesday vs the Lightning.
We have written down all the food ideas, and she is keen to try them.
Sorry RW99, I think your dream will remain so.

Wow, taking in a Sens/Lightning game? Is she adequately prepared to handle that level of suck?

I think she still likes Alfredsson for that crushing hit on Tucker years ago.
