And not when someone decides to make a new thread to discuss something, even though it may be a sideshow within another thread.
Seriously, cut it out with all the fatas. If a thread is a true fata, a mod will lock it. I'm getting tired of opening a thread to read about something I thought was interesting in the thread title, only to discover a multi-post pissing match about whether a thread is a fata or not.

Lol. And if this thread is a fata, forgive me. I did a search on fata and 500 threads came up in .25 seconds.

Agreed. I don't think this is a fata as the thread Bingo started was a trade deadline managements strategy for just a few days, where as this thread actually addresses the annoyance as a whole rather than just a particular time of year.

I think as a rule of thumb, if there is new news that wasn't discussed in that 2 week old thread it deserves a new thread. I for one, don't like sifting through pages upon pages of a thread to find out one specific point.

Some of the best info I've ever received from CP has been from a Fata thread. The fata exists to remind users to use the search function before posting a thread. We're probably just fata-sensitive as deadline day is nothing but a g-damn fata bloodbath.

I've gotta agree here, for the most part I dont post threads with news in them unless I really notice that they're conspicuously absent, and in those situations the news is often buried in a thread that I'm not reading.

But if everyone jumps down the throat of anyone who posts something already mentioned you're going to see people hesitant to post their info and news out of fataing fear and we're going to start missing out on stuff.

While the fata nazis have been out in full force I do think that it is necessary to sort of police the board to keep people from starting too many threads. I don't like having to sift through 3 full pages of threads just to find something that happened yesterday.
Some people need to learn that despite their best instincts lots of stuff ISN'T worth its own thread. Not everything is thread worthy news. Usually fatas are used in a lighthearted manner to point out that something is talked about already. When people use it to shut down another person's thread it can go too far but like I said it is good to keep the forum in line and keep it from getting cluttered.

I had someone claim "yeah... my first FATA!!!!" on a thread I started like it was their first lay or something. I understand there is nothing more annoying than two discussions on the same thing at the same time but I swear there are people crawling around just waiting for their chance to call FATA.
furthermore, you can't have a subject line like "The galaxies collide to create a rainbow" to talk about Conroy's stick handling abilities and expect people to read it, then bark a some that starts a thread called "Conroy's stick handling abilities"

BTW the thread "The galaxies collide to create a rainbow" doesn't actually exist... just an exagerated example.

In a way, the Fata is a self-policing programme. A lot of the regulars don't want to get called out so they take the time to search. I think the problem lies in the fact that some of the newer members get word of this 'fata' or the general mentality of some people who would rather derail a thread by posting about unrelated 'forum manners' and they just lurk. In the end, it's safe to assume that some good threads have never been started out of fear of being ripped by regulars here or having the thread derailed so bad that it's just not worth it. To a regular, a fata is no big deal because they understand the true context of it, and that it's usually a friendly way of saying it's being talked about.
It's the same with when you post in the wrong forum... so someone made a post in the wrong forum... then we have to sift through 26 responses about how it's not flames related when it will be moved within the next 5 minutes.
