It's basically text messaging, but on-line. Not really like Facebook/myspace/Hi5/Friendster.

Nevermind Twitter, I'm sick of online social networking all together (I know, CP could easily be one). The entire Facebook idea of posting pictures for everyone to see (even if it's just your friend list, admit it, you aren't 'friends' with 90% of them) is just ######ed. I've told my actual friends not to post pictures of me on that site. It's flat out weird that we all sit at our computers and literately slave over this personal webspace. Such an enormous waste of time. Use a telephone and go for a walk.
Consider this:
Number of ways the average person can stay in touch:
- Telephone (in some cases 2 or even 3 lines)
- Text messaging on or more devices
- Email, multiple accounts
- Facebook, Twitter, etc.
- MSN, AIM, ICQ, etc.
We're EASILY talking 7-10 ways for someone to get a hold of you, and on the flip side, 7-10 devices/accounts we're supposed to be responsible for checking. It's too damn much and I'm sick of it.
/End rant. Thanks for the thread.

I realize this wasn't Thor's intent, but this thread reminded me to sign up for a twitter account. Time for me to see what the big hoopla is all about.

Jimmy Fallon made a Twitter joke last night, and no one knew what he was talking about, including me.

Come to think of it, I think the only other time I've heard Twitter was about some guy in the middle east using it to get rescued from insurgents or something..? Made a post that he was in trouble etc? I dunno.

Totally agree 100%..I still use facebook as kind of an email program with some friends who are far away, but for the most part I hate the damn thing. I dont need to know what all of my "friends" are doing every second of each day, nor do I need to see all their drunken photos from every event they've ever been to. I've made a similar request to my friends to keep pics me off their facebook accounts. I'm thnking of actually cancelling my account.

This would not be accurate and paints everyone that uses the site with the same brush. There are plenty of people like me who only use Facebook for friends out of province/country. I have 27 friends and only 5 of them are in Canada. And these are actual friends. I deny plenty of friend requests and even have taken some off as well. And it's great to see photos of out of town friends, especially when you don't get to see them often or at all.

Definitely - There is a use for it and it's very useful for what you're talking about. For me, and I'm sure plenty of others - It's turned into a picture whore posting palace. Like others have said, I don't want to see their drunken adventure photos from every weekend. I've deleted a lot of friends recently to try and manage the idiocy.
