Where is the best place to purchase a laptop?
I was trying to gather some research to find out what the best place to purchase a laptop is but did not find much. I did a search on the forums as well and did not see a topic so sorry if I missed it. I don't have to much to spend (about $700 or so I would like to keep it at). I just wanna know who has the best prices and warranty just in case. Also do you guys recommend any specific brand to look for? Thanks for looking and I appreciate your input.

Buy online or at Memory Express.
Anything you buy from BestBuy cannot be customized, ie more RAM, larger HDD, 9 cell battery etc. Memory express will at least let you customize your laptop. Better to do it up front that decide in 2 weeks you want to dump the 2x1 gigs of ram that came with it for 2 - 2 gigs sticks

Speaking of which, if you're looking for laptops, there are some really good deals going on for the Thinkpad X61 or the Samsung X360.
Depending on what kind of laptop you want to get. Online is probably the best since they have deals all the time... you can find some EPP deals, coupons, free shipping etc. Go to redflagdeals.com and Hot Deal computers. They usually post up some good deals going for laptops.

Alright sounds good, thanks for the advice. Doesn't sound like you guys really stay away from a certain brand. I am getting my student tax return and it's time I finally get myself a new computer. I'll be checking out the websites you guys recommended.

If you're not one of those people who think refurbished things die fast, Laptop Depot usually has good prices on ~6 month old laptops.

Really? Because I've looked at Laptop Depot and thought they were out to lunch with their prices. I think I was looking at some $1000 laptops that were maybe $100 cheaper- to me that small savings wouldn't be worth buying used; especially not knowing the battery's history.

I bought mine there about 2.5 years ago and other than the battery's gradual decline, it still runs tip-top.
The list price when I bought it was $2350, I got it there for $1900

Laptop depots prices are just too high.
Why get a used / refurb when you can get them new for same price

Hrm, well it's possible they jacked them up since I last dealt with them. Businesses do have a tendency to proportionally suck in regards to their popularity.

I am not saying it is a bad deal, but it certainly isn't the good deal they are making it out to be.

I bought mine at the Mac Station in Abbotsford. But my last laptop I bought from a homeless guy in Eastside Vancouver.
