Hey, if Crysis was console exclusive it would be stale, contrived, and boring.
But it's a PC exclusive, thus putting it on an enormous pedastal of greatness.

I have no idea what big complaints people could possibly have with Crysis. All the complaints were that system requirements were too high, the game was shorter than expected, and that the multiplayer sucked. People comlained about the flying level too...the problem being they sucked at flying and claimed it was too hard when I think the problem is that these people are living in an era where they have never played a flight sim type game before.
The actual gameplay is probably the best there is in terms of game mechanics for an action shooter. It was a little too easy though since people abused the invisibility cloak too much and then claimed bad AI. Crysis is immersive, well scripted, well mapped, visually stunning, and controls, weapons, items, vehicles, and player abilities are all very tight. The suit being able to switch from armor to cloak to slealth to speed was very well done aside from the cloak being too powerful. Overall way better and simply intuitive to use than any other special abilities I have seen in other games.
Far Cry 2...now that is a load of crap. Had to hack it so that enemies nolonger attack me at checkpoints and that my car is twice as fast moving from place to place. Aside from being able to start fires, the game has nowhere near the weapon complexity of Crysis or even the gameplay.

Fight Soldiers - Check.
Fight Aliens - Check.
Stale, Contrived Plot - Check.
Boring - Nope. This is a game I can just stand still in the forest and sit back and admire. Or go swimming in a beautiful ocean and not care about fighting soldiers or aliens...and when I have to do that...it always seemed to surprise me in terms of gameplay or new places to explore. That said, I won't play Crysis Warhead or the sequel because I am sick of the tropical jungle environment. After Far Cry and Crysis, I am totally sick of it, nomatter how beautiful it is. It is now truely stale. Some guy made his own map and mission that ends up to be about 5x longer than any single player mission in the actual game and he set it in a more boreal forest and it was like night and day what a simple change like pine trees made.
Every console FPS I have played. COD4, Resistance 1&2, Killzone, Halos (Even Deadspace which I got halfway through on PS3 but that was 3rd person) etc. have felt very constricted, overly scripted, and very narrow on rails. I hate those kinds of games. Even on PC, I utterly hate Half-Life 2. Also, using a controller takes away the freedom of movement and instant pinpoint aiming I have with a mouse.
I'm not against console games. I finished Mirror's Edge on PS3 (maybe because I could avoid shooting and thus the torture of using a clumsy thumstick to aim a crosshair). I also forgot to mention Rainbow Six Vegas and Vegas 2. Those are great games as well on both console and PC...of course with the caveat that they are completely different from the actual realistic tactical gameplay of the original Rainbow 6 PC games but they are good enough for me...despite being heavily consolized and made arcady.

Even with that whole list...you see a trend. FPSs that are all shooters in some way. I'm sick of shooting. Even 15 years ago in Wolfenstein I just wanted to explore the castle, not have to deal with nazis and zombies and Mecha-Hitler (yes, Mecha-Hitler. See Episode III). I would love something like a National Geographic liscense and taking Cryengine 2 from Crysis and making some sort of safari or educational/exploration title. I really liked Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on PS3 for the archeological explorational type environments. Then it jumped the shark like most games do and busted out the...wait for it. NAZI-ZOMBIES. Yes it actually combined Nazis with zombies. If you could have seen my face when that happened in that game. I totally chucked the controller across the room (which pissed off my friend who owned that controller).

Also I agree, Mirror's Edge is awesome.

What a load of crap.
Crysis is boring because it's not completely and utterly scripted like COD4 and most other console shooters?
Crysis is amazing because you can actually play the game the way you want to play sucessfully and there's so many different ways to overcome any scenario. For those who've played the Thief series, it feels like Thief II compared to the linear, claustrophic Thief III.

Uncharted became dull the second it started trying to be Gears of War. Just like Mirror's Edge became dull when it started trying to be a first person SHOOTER. Too many developers start out with a great idea and then ruin it to trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
But I can appreciate a game like Killzone 2, it doesn't try to be anything more than a great shooter with a lot of scripted set-pieces. There's only so many of those types of games you can play, but they are great for what they are.

Picked it up yesterday. Really good IMO. I agree most first person shooters are the same, but, this one is better than lots of other ones out there.

I didn't say crysis is boring, I said Far Cry 2 was boring. I haven't played Crysis, I have just heard from friends that the core gameplay isn't that great.
That is why I so wanted to like Far Cry 2, because it is open and not scripted, but having to drive for 20+ minutes to every mission only to drive some more as part of the mission, and having to go through hundreds of road blocks during the game, is just boring and annoying.
Call of Duty 4 had an excellent campaign how ever. Although I get when people complain about how linear most campaigns are. They do get boring/annoying. But that is why I have RPG's like Oblivion and Fallout 3.

I'm almost a Sergent online, which means I will be able to make a clan if there is interest. I should be able to do this tonight with a small play session.
One word of warning: it appears that you will not gain points toward your rank unless you are present at the end of the match. When I quit a match about 5 minutes in I didn't get a screen telling me I had ranked up, so unless it does the point addition behind the scenes I did not receive any credits for my mediocre performance.

How is the multiplayer? Easy to learn or somewhat confusing? I never play my PS3 (haven't played the games in years, just blu-ray), but I am very tempted to pick this up now that my xbox live has expired and I don't want to renew for a while.

I would say it is confusing at first. Like all games you have to start learning the maps, but in this case all of the maps have a substantial vertical component to them which makes it very confusing. The second thing that will trip people up is the fact that you have to be very methodical, as it only takes a few bullets to go down. This combined with not knowing the maps means you will die very, very often.
The way the rounds work is very interesting, as the objective will switch every 5 minutes. This means that every five minutes you are trying to accomplish something new. The objectives are Body Count (kill more people then the other team), Search and Retrieve (capture the flag), Search and Destroy (Bomb and area or protect it), Capture and Hold (multiple areas to capture, first one to hold them longest wins) and Assassination (one guy is selected the target, protect him or kill him). This makes it hard for the rounds to be boring and means you can usually just sit in one room the whole night.
To be honest I was a little skeptical at first about the multiplayer. I kind of hated it. I think this was more the fact that I wasn't doing very well, and sitting on the sidelines because you are dead is never very fun. I am starting to get into it as I am eager to try out the different player types.

That sounds pretty cool. Redmile34 (from the eashl team) and I are off on thursday, perhaps we can join the clan by then.
I love the fact that you can die with just a few shots. I can't stand it when I shoot a guy 10 times and he doesn't die. Assassination sounds like a lot of fun too.

Do you (or anyone else) care what the clan is called? If I end up making it there is a good chance it will be something totally unoriginal.

My vote would be to make it related to CP or Fata, but hell, if you're making the clan it's totally up to you!

If you like COD4 or W@W then you probably will hate the 'control feel' in the game. Multiplayer is one of the best.

Ya, I'm not a big fan of the rotation speed. Seems way too slow.
Oh ya, and don't bother aiming to kill anything. Most of the kills I get seem to be random luck. When I aim at the person, I pump 5-7 shots into him but get killed...without killing him. I aim low and wide its a head shot.
