I'm glad there are videos out recording the cops misconduct. It's about time they learn they can't go around taking the law into their own hands with no checks or balances.
I'm not talking about all cops but some in certain areas still think this is the 1960s and wonder why they don't get much co-operation when dealing with gangs.

Ah, probably not. Not even close.

I didn't say her I said people who disobey the cops. The Taser guy comes to mind, the guy stopped in Utah (?) a year or two ago as well.
Perhaps if she doesn't want to be the "victim of a crime" she shouldn't kick her shoes at cops. Seems pretty basic to me.

I don't think it's alleged, she got beat but according to you she had it coming?
You know I guess there are times to circle the wagons for a fellow, but I'd pick a different cause.

I wish cops were always that tough on prisoners..then maybe people would think twice about breaking the law...like the old days

That's right, she's lucky he didn't draw down on her and put a clip where it would do the most good! Sure, maybe that would be a *bit* excessive, but if you don't want to be capped, you should keep your eyes low and your tone respectful when in the presence of the Man!
What we should really do is give this guy a commendation and show this video as a training aid - that way, the next time a prisoner launches a shoe, BOTH officers will be in there kicking and punching to teach a proper lesson. No more liberal mollycoddling where you get away with only a moderate pummeling!

Is that you, Bill O'Reilly? Sounds like the time he blamed a rape/murder victim for the crime because she was wearing skanky clothes.

Ya blaming someone for wearing skanky clothes is the same as telling someone not to kick their shoes at a cop.
Again is it really that hard not to kick shoes at a cop? Is that asking too much of people today?
Plus the so-called beating is not even close to someone getting raped.

Well some people are so stupid they only have an IQ of 75 but what does that have to do with this situation. In this scene there are only three people involved so it's either the cops or this girl you are referring to. Personally I think it's the cops who are the stupid ones and now they may get what's coming to them.

He can speak for himself, but "she was a little devil", "don't kick your shoes at cops", "the strikes to get her to stop resisting" sound like three different justifications to me.
And I love the "strikes" euphemism. Maybe we can call these "strikes" what they really are -- punches to the back of the head of a teenage girl who is lying on the ground.

And perhaps he shouldn't assault a teenage girl if he doesn't want to go to prison. That seems pretty basic to me.
And perhaps he shouldn't be a cop if he's effing crazy, which he obviously is.
I swear, if the guy had pulled out his gun and blown her head off we'd be offered the same argument. "If she didn't want to get shot, she shouldn't have kicked her sneakers at the cop".

That's a decent argument only if it comes from someone who has never broken any law.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't you made reference to personally smoking weed?

Wow. I was surprised - the beating was more savage than I expected with less provocation and actually really good quality of capturing it. Usually in these types of videos its a shaky cell phone camera video that only captures part of the action. I hope this cop gets a little bit more than a nice paid vacation.
Now... Continue the usual arguments from the 'police can do no wrong' crowd as well as the 'police are corrupt pigs' crowd....

Having read through this thread before watching the video, I was expecting much worse from the girl and much better from the cop. After watching...what the F@%$ was that?!?!
It's not like she punted the shoe. It appeared as though she "kicked" it off no harder than one might do when they get home from a long days work. It doesn't even show if it hit the cop or not, but for purposes of giving him a slight benefit of the doubt I'll assume it did. Either way, no way on this green earth does that justify his response. His reaction, after jump kicking her in the stomach, was to throw her head into the wall before throwing her on the floor and taking as big of swings as possible to punch her in the back of the head, then picking her up off the floor by her hair...I would be upset if I watched this happen to a defenseless grown man in a holding cell, but watching it happen to a defenseless 15 year old girl made me feel sick.
Regardless of what she did to deserve being there, she was completely defenseless in THAT situation and he deserves as severe a punishment as possible.
The guy that threw his shoes as hard as possible at the President of the United States' head didn't even get beat like that!

yup and I have a permit..
that's a decent argument whether someone has broken the law or not. There used to be a time when jail was actually a legitimate deterrent.

Congrats on the permit. Have you ever broken any law? Tell the truth.
What you are saying is "cops should be able to beat the hell out of people, including children, if they are accused of breaking the law, and then they won't break the law".
The cop in question is accused of breaking the law. Even if you believe he's justified in beating the hell out of a little girl, it's against the law. So, is he due for a beating?
I mean come on, he assaulted a child. A "man" was punching a girl in the back of the head while he was lying on top of her, and you are saying "it's alright".
If the guy in the video wasn't wearing a uniform the same people who are defending his actions would be happily posting creative tortures for him to be subjected to and snickering about the sexual abuse he should receive in prison.
