Beating caught on police video - Tape shows officer kicking, striking teenager
Quote:
A video showing a King County Sheriff's deputy pummeling a 15-year-old girl in a holding cell was released Friday over the strenuous objections of the officer's attorney.
Quote:
The case goes beyond police misconduct, County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg said in a prepared statement.
"It's about criminal misconduct. And that's why he needs to be prosecuted," he said.
Quote:
The video shows Schene and Brunner as they escorted the girl into the holding cell. Schene had asked her to remove her basketball shoes, and, as she slipped out of her left shoe, she appeared to kick it at Schene.
Schene then lunged through the door and kicked her, striking either her stomach or upper thigh area, court documents say. He pushed her against a corner wall before flinging her to the floor by her hair. He then squatted down on her and made "two overhead strikes," although it's unclear where the blows landed.
Looks like this guy has had a troubled history and I am sympathetic to what must be a stressful and dangerous job.
"Schene had previously been in the news in 2006 after he fatally shot Pedro Jo, a mentally ill man, during a struggle after a traffic stop on Interstate 5. It was the second officer-involved shooting of his career.
An inquest jury ruled the shooting was justified. Jo viciously attacked Schene, trying to strangle him with his own radio cord.
Jo then ran back to his car and disobeyed Schene's orders to stop. Schene said he saw Jo reach for something in the seat, so Schene fired 11 times after Jo ran back to his car.
Shortly after the shooting while on administrative leave, Schene was stopped for driving under the influence.
He had been drinking and taking prescription medication, according to court records. He received a deferred sentence and was placed on probation, records show.
Schene works in an urban precinct with higher rates of violent crime and gang activity than other precincts. Officers assigned there more often report having to use physical force in arrest situations, Laing said."

While I do see how he has had to deal with ending someone's life, something that could really scar someone for life. I fail to see how any of the rest of it has anything to do with him beating up a 15 year old kid on camera.
Even then, his previous trauma does not excuse the action. If he really was that screwed up, he never should have been allowed back on the force.

I said I'm sypathetic to what must be a terrible and dangerous job. I'm hearing more and more stories of cops blowing things out of proportion or going way overboard everyday. I'm just saying, these people are put in tough situations and I can see why some of them might react this way. These people however, are not suited to be cops anymore (same as that transit cop I posted about). He should be totally off the force and not a position of authority again. I neglected to complete my entire thought earlier after I hastily pressed paste. You can see from my other posts in other threads that I am definetely not on the side of guys like this.

Anyway, if this beating was justified, why did he lie about it in the report?
Who said it was justified?
Is it really that difficult a concept for people to understand that if a cop asks you to do something that you do it?
Kicking a shoe at a cop certainly doesn't deserve a beating but it is hard to feel sorry for some idiot that can't take their shoes off or follow a simple order.
I am tired of people making these losers out to be some sort of matyrs when the whole situation could have been avoided by acting like a normal person and following the cops instructions.
Sometimes people forget that police officers are (rightly) held to a higher standard of conduct than the average man on the street. And their role is not to punish, but to police.
What a tough guy. That's not even a justifiable response if a grown man is kicking shoes at you, but a 15 year-old girl? If I'm that girl's dad then I'm rounding up a few of my buddies to head over to this guy's house.
Schene could face up to a year in jail if convicted.
It's nice to know that the thugs hired to protect us are held to lower standard than rest of us. If I booted a chick in the stomach and then held her down while I punched her in the back of the head, I'm sure my sentence would be a little heavier than one year.

I completely agree, I don't condone what alot of these officers do in these alleged police beatings, but damn some people are so stupid they have it coming. It's amazing how less often your ass gets beat the less stupid you are.

Who is making her out to be a martyr? She is the victim of a crime.
Seriously, this is a video of a grown man (uniform or not) beating up a 15 year old girl. It is indefensible, and he deserves to go to prison.
