I'm anxious to see this. I'm a little sorry that I read a recap of the novel awhile back but I still really want to see it. Every ad I've seen for it looks incredible.

I feel like I'm supposed to be excited for this, being a superhero/video game/geeky stuff nerd type person. But I'm just not. There's nothing in those trailers to get excited over. What, a bunch of mediocre action sequences in slow motion with Muse in the background? I dunno, it just doesn't look that interesting.

This movie is rated R for a reason. The sex/violence will be like nothing you've ever seen in a "superhero" movie before.

I wonder though how this movie will go over those that haven't read the graphic novel and are expecting something totally different.

ya, before I read it I was expecting completely different than after I finished reading it.
I think those that read it will enjoy it far better than those that didn't

Those that go expecting a "superhero movie" will be disappointed.

I'm in the middle of reading it now. Great thus far, seeing the previews I know the scenes they're using.
I'm excited for this movie, mind you I can wait as simply, I want to finish the novel first.
Mind you right now there's a hockey game preventing me from continuing my reading this evening

Well, based entirely on this thread, I've just purchased the book off amazon. Did I just buy a comic book?

Yes, yes you did. I said the same thing to myself as I walked around Indigo holding it.

What exactly is a graphic novel? A comic book that's as long as a novel?

It's pretty much a whole series of comics in one book. So basically all 6 issues of Watchmen in one book

Fixed.
And graphic novels tend to not just suggest Trade Paperbacks which is in fact a collection of issues of a comic.
Graphic novels tend to be runs of a comic that were intended to be read as one complete story. Watchmen, V for Vendetta, pretty much anything by Loeb and Sale this sort of thing. Graphic novels are just what they sound. Not simply a story which has no predetermined length, but a novel.
Although usually considered a Trade Paperback (TPB) stuff like Preacher volumes are only sort of Graphic Novels. They basically just collect issues of an ongoing series together. In titles like Spiderman only major storylines are collected, random 1 issue or 2 issue arcs are very rarely collected unless some sort of epic revelation or storyline is in them.

I just re-read the novel for the first time in a decade, and I forgot how damn depressing the story is. Not sure if I want to see the film now.
