Could you get your shaw to send all your mail through a gmail account and then use that? Unfortunately that's all I have.

I don't think Shaw works, and yeah, back when I got my iPhone I was told by someone here to get a gmail account and use that. Works just fine, although sometimes it takes awhile for an email to get to the phone.

I think for Shaw you have to be on a Shaw wireless network for it to actually send the mail. It sucks because it doesn't tell you it didn't go.

FYI. I have tried contacting Fido, Shaw and Apple and nothing is working.
Thanks!

Weird, works fine on the blackberry. Should be pop.shaw.ca (I believe)

IIRC Shaw mail uses the following for both incoming and outgoing:
shawmail.cg.shawcable.net
Supposedly just "shawmail" is supposed to work, but I've never had it work.
Actually, I think I know what it is. I just went from Shaw to Telus. To be able to get my Shaw mail in Outlook, I have to hop onto my neighbour's Shaw connection; it cannot get to the server over the Telus network. Could be that Shawmail is also not allowed to route through Rogers' network either.

That's only for mail clients connected directly to the Shaw network. The incoming mail server on the iPhone needs to be pop.shaw.ca and the outgoing server needs to be whichever one your cell phone company provided you. You'll also need your Shaw username and password. Your username is the first part of your Shaw email address without the "@shaw.ca" and your password will be the one you set up with them when you created your account.

You may very well be right, but my shawmail does work on my phone and the server under advanced settings is pop.shaw.ca, so it may work for the Iphone too. Couldn't hurt to try it.

prior to this thread I have tried pop.shaw.ca and shawmail.cg.shawcable.net and neither work except when I am connected to my home wifi. THe part that is frustrating is that I can recieve emails anywhere using either 3G or an available wifi but when I go to send the email it can't find the network.
It sucks because I talk to Fido and they say to talk to Shaw. I talk to Shaw and tell me to talk to Apple. Maybe I will try Apple again and hopefully get someone that knows what they are talking about.

Can you log on to shaw webmail through your browser to send emails?
Kind of defeats the purpose of on-device email though I guess....

Fido is the network provider so they have to provide you with the SMTP server name. Google says Fido's SMTP server is gprs.fido.ca so maybe try that.

you should be able to have shawmail receiving on telus and then to send out do it by connecting through telus' outgoing server?

Exactly. pop.shaw.ca is where your incoming mail is stored and that is accessible from any internet connection. You can't send through a Shaw SMTP server if you're not connected directly to it.

Hmm... I guess the 'server' setting in the BB email setup must only be for incoming mail for the account then. Maybe the server for all outgoing mail is part of the service books or somthing? Oh well, I'm of no use to this thread obviously...

Does it give you an option for account name and password?

My shaw account works fine with my rogers iPhone
Host name is pop.shaw.ca
SMTP is smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com
If you're on Fido call them and ask them what theirs should be.
