DVD backups on PC
tried using DVD shrink, worked a couple of times now it just seems to error out. Any other decent software out there? I want to copy a couple of our DVDs that my son watches over and over and over...

My favourite website when it comes to questions like these is

Step by step guides for doing just about anything you need to do with DVDs -- ripping, converting, compressing, etc.

I was going to mention DVD Decrypter, but it is getting long in the tooth.
I was going to suggest Doom9, but that site can seem overwhelming.
DVDFab is about as straightforward as you can get, other than the fact that when you start it you always need to select the free trial; they are always hoping you buy the expanded OMG YOU GET EVERYTHING version. It is almost pseudo nag ware. Oh, and it navigates all the TS_Video folder stuff for you.

A lot of DVDs now seem to have different copy protection schemes on them, I try to do the same thing with my son's DVDs and get a pretty low success rate. There's supposed to be different things to get around that but don't seem to work for everything.

I agree with you about DVD Decrypter. The main appeal for me about the doom9 is the guides section. I used to do a lot of video type stuff back in the day (now the combination of a USB-key and PS3 pretty well solves everything), and whenever I'd get stuck on something I'd always find the answer there.

Get AnyDVD and CloneDVD.
AnyDVD works in the background to automatically remove the copy protection of a DVD movie as soon as it's inserted into the drive, allowing you then to backup the movie using a DVD backup tool such as CloneDVD.
Easy and works great.
