Default How do I get my CD out?

I can't remove a CD from my laptop. I go to Start/My Computer/right click on D drive/Eject, but it doesn't work. When I do this I can hear it making some sounds but nothing more. Help?

Might I suggest the eject button?

I should have mentioned that. Tried that, but it does the same thing.

Many CD-ROM trays have a small pin hole at the front. Un-bend a paper clip, and stick the longest part in. That will manually eject the disc. Make sure the PC is powered off first.

Update: I turned off the computer and put the end of a paperclip into a little hole beside the eject button but it doesn't eject the CD. Is there anything else I can try? I's an older laptop so maybe it's just worn out. But the CD drive hasn't been used that much so I can't imagine that this would happen.

On IBM/lenovo laptops there is a secondary latch that pops out that you use to pull out the CD tray. With the paper clip, try pushing harder (that's what she said)

pffft, you don't need to power off. What you need to do is give your CD drive a jumpstart. Put on wool socks and drag your feet around on the carpet. Take the cover off your computer and touch anything you see...

Start by declaring that you're a CD in the confessions thread; others have posted similar confessions there (and it really is a better fit than in the technology forum). You could use an anonymous email at first, it'll be easier that way, and you'll probably get some supportive responses. But I guess since you posted this thread, I guess you're already comfortable enough with it that you don't need that much anonymity. Anyway, you should just start doing it in private, and then gradually start going out in public, CDing a little bit more each time. Pretty soon, you'll be a fully 'out' CD. Best of luck!

In Soviet Russia, CD gets you out.

Also the manual hole is supposed to release the latch that holds the drive tray into the laptop unless you have a slot load deal(most likely not) Otherwise, you can power down the system, and remove the drive completely(seems to be a regular PC laptop and not a Mac/Sony/Laptops that came with slot load instead of tray'd cd holders) and disassemble from there.

Remove the drive, and use a hammer. Order a new laptop.
