I work for a drafting company that does structural steel detailing. We work on some of the larger industrial work out of Fort Mac, but I'm someone who can easily be outsourced to India or China for 75 cents a week, so the result is that my pay is half of what it used to be. I need to figure out how to get more hands on in the construction process so that I can stop being so poor. Or quit my job and do something else once my wife finally joins the work force again.

I have worked in the oilpatch for the last 13 years. Drilled for 5 years and have been a drill bit consultant (PDC bithand) for the last 5 years. Looking to change careers once again Oil field related.

One day after I finish my degree at U of C I will work in the oilpatch. Have 2 years done, 3 left. Want to work someplace in the industry as a summer student next year though.

23,000 km of casing was put into the ground in Alberta last year, damn rights you should be getting into the oilpatch, and that doesn't include pipelines.
23000 km of casing... hmmm, then I'd guess I probably wrote cementing programs for about 5000 km last year.

Not a bad business to be in these days.

Well I'm usually involved when those programs go to shinguard. 50% EXCESS MINIMUM!!!! :P [/b][/quote]
Always happy to oblige if it means we sell more cement... (but honestly, if you buy our latest super-duper thixodivertocement blend for 400% of the price, you can get away with 30% excess) :P
