I've been thinking lately, do you value your anonymity on CP and the internet in general? I know for me one of the "coolest" things on CP is summits, heckles, team pitchers at BPs. But at times I wonder if it detracts at the same time. I was wondering though how far peoples comfort levels go. I didn't post in the Show your Mug thread, and at the times found it creepy. But I did open it, and think I recognized a CPer at the Dome a few weeks ago. I think only two posters here know my 'real' name. One of whom I've met. So I know some posters are known and others are not. I just wondered what everyone else's thoughts were on the issue. Especially those whose 'real' idenities are 'common' CP knowledge.
Mods perhaps some form of poll?

I only post at work, so I don't really want anybody telling my boss that they see me on CP all the time during work hours. Chances are 99.99% of the people on here woudn't know who I am. I have learned that it is a small world though. Better save than sorry.
I've actually met a few of the posters, and in that regard it's fine. I don't care if they know who I am.
It's the lurkers you need to watch out for. They're the ones photoshopping your pics and putting them up on ebaumsworld. They're like cats. Can't be trusted.

I have met several people on CP in person, bought a couple things and sold a couple things. Additionally, Troutman and Slava have both provided me with their stellar professional services.
I know Joborule is around, since he claimed to be sitting near me one day at school. I am not totally sure who he is though, there are a couple guys walking around that I assume are him.

This is true. Not to out him, but his picture is in his avatar, he is the one on the left.

Everyone was disappointed I did not look like Johnny Cash.
You do look a lot more sane in person than I would have assumed otherwise.

What does he look like after Gob puts him in the wash?

I've only met a couple cp'ers through selling items. Kind of stupid that I've never dropped in on a Den meeting considering i work on campus. Perhaps it's better that way ... I think if I visually confirmed that troutman wasn't Johnny Cash risen from the grave I'd be a little gutted.
I like the anonymity, it saves me from having to dodge flying debris in the street.
That said though, some of the CP social functions are pretty sweet, and for those unfortunate few who have met me, I'm not all that different in real life.

+1, I've met people on CP (buying/selling stuff and the CP Softball team), as well as I know a few friends and family members that post on here as well. That and the fact that my avatar is my actual picture should reveal I don't really care to be anon on this site.
I like the anonymity until perhaps I feel a certain level of trust. There are people on the CP I would like to meet for sure. There is some crap on the intertubes under my name that isn't true. Unfortunately it appears very credible and appears to be from credible sources. However I am contemplating a legal name change because who has time to worry about or explain this crap? Also I have anon-blood relative with my same name and wouldn't want to be mixed up with said person...in fact I already have been, unfortunately.
I've met more than my fair share of CPers and my 'real identity' is fairly well known I guess. Doesn't bother me, I don't post anything I wouldn't say to someone's face.
In fact, that is how I read the board, as if we are all sitting around chatting. And that is how I like to moderate too. If someone posts something really stupid I think before I delete it "Would that person really say that to a group of people?". Usually the answer is "no" and I'll remove the post, or give an infraction or whatever.
