FYI - Snowfall Warning for Calgary - 10 -15 cm of snow
Just an FYI....around 0400 Environment Canada issued a weather warning for 10-15 cm of snow this afternoon...
http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/warni...rt_e.html?ab12
Quote:
City of Calgary
4:04 AM MST Tuesday 24 February 2009
Snowfall warning for
City of Calgary issued
10-15 cm of snow expected by this afternoon.
A vigerous disturbance currently over central Washington state will track eastward today to lie in central Montana by this evening. The disturbance carries with it mild pacific air laden with moisture. At the same time a cold dense Arctic airmass is pushing southward across Alberta. The two airmasses will collide over southern Alberta creating conditions favourable for significant snowfall with accumulations in the 10-15 cm range expected. Areas in the southwestern foothills may see enhanced accumulations with the addition of an upslope component.

By posting that here you assume people would come here before looking at the weather network. And you assume correctly, thanks for the heads up, its gonna be a long drive back to high river after the hockey game tonight.

Roads are already getting brutal. And not a single sign of salt or gravel anywhere on Sarcee or Glenmore. I want my property tax money back.
Watch out for slushy sections, they seem to be especially slippery this morning.

Hopefully not 10-15 cm more. I just shoveled that much off my driveway.

Passed by two sanders on my way in, and both Barlow and Glenmore were in pretty good condition, all things considered.
Thumbs up to the city.

As I waited for the bus that was 15 minutes late this morning I decided that I will need to take a snow day soon. I guess that day will be tomorrow.

My walk in was the best it has been in weeks.
The snow covered the ice still on Calgary residential streets and back alley entry ways.
w00t w00t to the snow. Thanks.

Has to be quoted for truth. I just don't get why people become so incompetent when driving in snow.

I drove from downtown to the south end today, no problems. I did see lots of traffic heading downtown on Crowchild/Glenmore etc. Anderson was backed up until the reserve almost!
That being said, it wasn't that bad out, and most people were just being dumb. I find it's the ones with the winter tires driving the slowest too. There's got to be a reason you got those tires, rip it up!
Not looking forward to tonight and tomorrow.

Well...pretty much everyone has called in and canceled their appointments for today so it looks like I'm sitting here doing nothing and getting paid today.
It sounds sweeter than it is, I'm bored out of my skull and I've only been here an hour and a half.

Probably just overly cautious of getting T-boned by somebody without winter tires.

With the weeks of nice roads we've had, it's apparent that most quickly flushed the portion of their brain that held the "how to drive in winter" theory.
I'm one of them... But that quickly came back and I realized how much I missed the snow in my subaru

I have a new set of winter tires this year and they have been great. My stopping times have hugely improved. But I still slow down considerably in snow. WHY? Because of the idiots who don't take it into consideration. Usually dufii in SUV's with probably the best winter tires known to man onboard. But they drive like dumb jerks thus negating the superior tires.
It's pretty simple really. Adjust driving to the conditions. Adjust the time for travel. Take every precaution vis a vis idiots. Don't accomodate idiots either. If they tailgate you slow down dramatically. Then at the next intersection just crawl out as slow as possible. Cheeze them off at every opportunity--it's part of your public education responsibility.
