I said the Canes have more talent then the Canes team from last season.
A reverse of the Hitmen who had more talent last season but seem to be playing better this season.

Lowry gave John Down of the Herald an update on Postma this am:
Quote:
“We’re coming up to the playoffs, so it’s an upper body injury” said Lowry when asked if he thought Postma’s injury would be short term or long term. “I think he is day to day . . . I think he has a bruise, that is my belief.”
|
Down goes on to say that he believes there is much more to the injury and I tend to agree with John.

oh my bad moon i thought u were comparing the two teams. Did u happen to watch the canes and tigers game last night, by the looks of the scoresheet it was quite the fightfest. I went to the game friday night thinking it would be the game with all the fights seeing how it was the first game between the two teams since the "empty net" incident. but looks like i was a game too early.....

Giants lose again, falling 3-2 to Seattle tonight. They seem to have hit a rough patch, going 3-3-1 in their last seven.
They now have 7 loses, the same as the Hitmen, thus a lower winning %, and need to win all of their 5 remaining games in hand just to make up the 10 point gap between them and the Hitmen.

The Giants are just not the same team without Blum in the lineup. Hopefully Postma's injury isn't serious because I think he is as important to the Hitmen as Blum is to the Giants.

Seattle is to the Giants what the Ice are to us, it seems.... that lower team that just gives them fits.

Really good news as it appears that the injury to Paul Postma is not as severe as initially feared, and he may even be ready to go for their next game on Wednesday night.
Quote:
"The docs wanted to double-check and make sure nothing was wrong," Postma said. "We got some X-rays done, and everything was alright."
Postma, who leads the WHL in plus/minus with a plus-62, said he will take a few days off but hopes to play Wednesday night when the Hitmen host the Regina Pats.
"I probably won't skate for a few days," Postma said. "If things go well, hopefully I'll be back Wednesday. If not, for sure on the weekend."

I don't really know that they are really that far beyond Kootenay. They are both in the middle of their respective conferences, Seattle 5th and Kootenay 6th. However the Ice have 66 points to the Thunderbirds 64, and hold a game in hand. Looking at the statistics, other than the top three scorers for Seattle, there really isn't much seperation between the two teams.
While Seattle may have the more talented team, and does hold a victory over Kootenay, I really don't think the difference between the two teams is that great, and certainly is not great enough to suggest that Seattle is a better team to struggle against due to their vast superiority over Kootenay.

Seattle really struggled at the beginning of the season, having to deal with disinterested overagers, the emergence of a 16 year-old starting goalie, the absence of Thomas Hickey and Greg Scott and the new building not being ready.
Even though I live in Vancouver now, I have followed the ICE since they moved to Cranbrook, and despite their ability to win close games (like last night in Prince Albert), they are too young to make any noise this season. They REALLY miss Dustin Sylvester too, and Andrew Bailey hasn't put up the numbers since DaSilva graduated. They do have a bright future though, hopefully Nathan Lieuwen's concussion issues don't hurt his chances in the draft.
Seattle on the other hand, are settled in their new building, they have a bunch of home games to finish the year, and are a dark horse in the West (unless they draw Kelowna in the first round). And if they do end up getting Oscar Moller back (which still is in the realm of possibility), look out.

Well, I must admit that you do have far more exposure to the teams than I do. I didn't think that the difference was that great, but given your stated arguments and your knowledge of the teams, I can certainly admit that the difference may be greater than I perceived.

^^ I'm a bit of a 'Dub nerd, I'll be the first to admit.
Those of you who want to see Mitch Wahl play, the Chiefs/Giants game is on Shaw tonight (and FSN Northwest).

Stop me if you heard this before... suspensions pending following a fight-filled game between Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.
Also, Kootenay defenceman James Martin is in hot water over an alleged racial slur against Darian Dziurzynski of Saskatoon.

^^ Dziurzynski and Josh Nicholls were apparently involved. Of course Mark Holick (Kootenay coach) says he didn't hear anything. Goofy move by Martin if true, he didn't play Sunday in Prince Albert.

Speaking of suspensions, I noticed this when looking for an update to the above incidents:
02/15/09 Portland $250.00 for fight on opening face-off at Seattle on February 14.
02/15/09 Tayler Jordan Portland One game for fight on opening face-off at Seattle on February 14.
02/15/09 Seattle $250.00 for fight on opening face-off versus Portland on February 14.
02/15/09 Sena Acolatse Seattle One game for fight on opening face-off versus Portland on February 14.
When was this rule introduced? I know I've seen fights from the opening faceoffs before with no suspensions. Was this a quiet rule change?

No I missed both games as I was on vacation in the States.
Not too surprised by the results though as Tadjeh has shown he can beat the terrible teams in the league but is awful against the mediocre to good teams.
Without Metsola, as inconsistent as he has been, the Canes have no shot with the other two guys.

Just something that I found while checking out the Pats before tonight's game that I had never seen before. It's a 43 page .pdf media kit for the game tonight. It has the usually stuff such as standings, player statistics, and league leaders, both individual (goals, points, penalty minutes, save %, etc.) and team (record, powerplay %, penalty kill%, etc.). However, it also features indepth team breakdowns for both the Pats and the Hitmen, as well as indepth breakdowns of the two teams head to head, as well as team comparisions of that include things as miniscule as most shots faced in the second period.
The package also includes 2 complete schedules for both teams, one (beginning on page 6 for the Hitmen) showing each game played, the record after the game, who scored the game winning goal when the Hitmen won, and the two goalies that played. The other, which starts on page 34 for the Hitmen, is a game by game breakdown for each player, showing the goals, assists, and plus minus for that game, or in the case of the goaltenders, goals against, saves made, and result.
I'm not sure if anyone else has seen it before, I'm sure some have, but I just found it interesting to have all the information one might want in one convenient guide. It's also nice to have all the information that the media covering the game recieves, and be able to look a little more indepth at the highs and lows of both the team and individual players.

A tremendously lopsided game at the Dome tonight: shots were 50-15, and the Hitmen got four first period goals en route to a 6-3 final. Postma looked good and played a lot - I don't think he has any lingering injury troubles. No goals in the third, which is annoying, but not really a problem.

Just got back from the game, I hate to say it but man Plante looks really good. The Hitmen were completely dominate.

Plante will do that though. He'll look great for long stretches, then go and look like an idiot for a few games. He's got the tools, but I find his toolbox lacking from time to time.
Very well played game by the Hitmen. Only two big tests left until the playoffs. Kelowna on Saturday to try and tie the league record for wins at home, then that big game in Vancouver that may well determine who wins the regular season title.
