Clearly people rely too much on the economy for their happiness and well-being.
We're spiritual beings people we must love the world and ourselves as part of it, do yoga, find your cha-kra and eat your power animal because now you cant afford that $10 Starbucks coffee or those ugly-ass loafers you blew your wad on last week. So eat it.

Mostly I'm only rude to stupid people. The problem is that common sense isn't common anymore so I'm rude a lot. I can only allow my patience to take me so far.

I agree that lots of people are rude lately. Its probably related to stress and uncertaintly. People don't feel secure in their lives and that really shortens their fuse. I don't think that's a good excuse though. We all have stress in our lives so sometimes it requires more effort to remain pleasant, but its not impossible.

The owner must have a deep feeling with his dog, but I guess he has to sell due to some money issue. So, he might be in bad mood for extra questions because of stresses.

Why do you ask why there are mean people in the world 'right now?' It's as though you are implying that, at some point in time, there were no rude people, and now, they are everywhere. They've always been around, they will always be around. In economic hardships and in times of economic booms. There will always be people around to treat everyone else like garbage.

No, that's just not true. Things were better 20 years ago, and before that things were better 20 years before. Nothing was better then the 1940's though, except the 1920's. And everyone treated everyone great in the 1880's!

But in the early days there was no such thing as garbage. Native American tribes would use every part of the animals they consumed, so nothing was wasted.
Which begs the question, what did the mean people treat other people like before there was garbage?

I've had it with rude people. If you don't like your job and having to deal with people then quit and find another one. CSR's have to be the worst of the bunch.

You missed the key words "so many" in the thread title. No one is implying that rude people are a new phenomenon, just that there seems to be more now then usual.

Could that be thrown back though? Perhaps if people weren't so rude to CSRs because their own lives are crappy, maybe CSRs would give better service? Have you ever asked and genuinely cared about a CSR's day?
Yes, I realize that just because the person before you was rude, that doesn't give a CSR the right to take it out on you. However, if you've ever had a rude CSR have you ever asked them what was wrong? Why they were upset, not dealing well, etc? Generally, if you let people know they're being rude, they think about it and change. So instead of you getting upset about it, why don't you just change the cycle? Crack a joke and lighten the mood for both of you? Or is personal responsibility for your own experience non-existant?
I know, it's not your job to make sure you have a good experience, I get it. What I'm saying is that instead of bitching about it, why don't YOU change it?

Agreed. Most CSR's and people in similar positions are genuinely surprised when I come along and don't treat them like crap.
I've said this before about working tech support: don't piss us off, because we will ruin your life. It's basically the old do unto others argument, and one that mankind has completely lost focus on. As a culture, we are so selfish and self-serving these days that we either don't notice, or don't care, how our own actions affect those around us.

YOU can't change people. As soon as you make a comment about a persons behaviour they get defensive and thier back goes up plus the comments of don't tell me how to do my job.
Sure i care about a CSR's day. If one is polite to me i have no problem offering compliments, idle chat and have a nice day when the call is finished. Yet for whatever reason i'm supposed to be polite to someone who is rude to me. I tend to hang up and redial with hopes of getting someone different.

I can't change the FACT they have a crappy paying job and poor working conditions. That's the comment i get when i do ask. Nor can i change the ATTITUDE some bring to work everyday. It HAS to come from within the person.

Having worked in customer service i can relate to what you are saying. Generaly one is supposed to treat the customer as politely as possible dispite thier rude behaviour. The few times that i did lose it my boss often said don't worry about, customers like that we don't need.
