Calgary Transit participates in Google Transit

Calgary Transit, in collaboration with Google, is now providing another trip-planning option to customers with “Transit in Google Maps”. This feature complements the existing trip-planning function already offered by Calgary Transit and used by millions of Calgarians.

I believe this will make many avid users of the transit system happy. I just can't stand the trip planner that is on calgarytransit.com. About 2-3 months ago I had sent an email to the customer service email asking that they consider joining other North American mass transit systems in joining the Google Transit beta. And finally, here we are now.

Fantastic! I don't use transit a lot, but whenever I do, I find their website absolutely unusable. This almost makes me wish I was using transit. Not quite.

Right on! I was so excited when the iphone upgrade came out that let you see bus and train routes only to be gutted when we weren't included. I just checked it and it works great. Big kudos to calgary transit on this one.
If you thought navigating their trip planner was hard on a pc, try doing it on a phone. Jesus.

I'm sure Calgary Transit will find a way to charge riders for it as well.

Not what I was hoping for. I was hoping that Calgary Transit would show their route maps on a google maps overlay; so that you could zoom on a certain area, show it to scale, etc.
The map doesn't help much if you can't tell exactly what street the bus is going down.

rofl, i just tried it out from my house to the saddledome, starts off with a brisk 22 minute 2k walk from my house to the bus depot, then jump on the 3 bus then connect with the 24 bus. Total time. 1 hour 7 minutes.
The best part? there is a bus stop 50 feet from my house. oh well it's a beta right? Also reading their walking directions, tells me to cross the street to one side at one end, then go back across the same street at the other end.

You can do that. In your google maps interface, click 'more', and then click 'transit'. It'll show an overlay of all routes and stops. And of course you can click on any stop and bring up data for the stop including next times.

My face is a bum!

This seems to be dead the last few days
Anyone know it's status? I used it every day, it was way easier to pull up than going through Calgary Transit's site.

You can try using the CTs much clunkier trip planner.

I think crying at the bus stop, pushing the homeless around will work better - But I appreciate the advice!
I am sure my lady will prefer that I plan our route home instead of saying " stand here and we'll get on the first bus that comes by - also, punch that meth-head for me while I steal some panhandler's change".

wonder if it's just a random thing or it has something to do with the schedule change next week?

i was reading the first post thinking that they upgraded the service, and then I saw the date of the article and then the original post..
Be nice if they could incorporate if it was on time or not, I noticed on my iPhone that google maps now has traffic for calgary on deerfoot.

In a couple of years, realtime arrival information will be available for the LRT and BRT routes.

^^ Sadly, they already have that in Winnipeg on major stops. Nice LED displays teling you the arrival time of the various buses.

^Yes. Their BUSwatch system was implemented in 2009. Several other cities have similar systems or will be implementing them soon.
