Lol, you probably share that sentiment with many people today.

yah, no doubt..any posts made on this account after, oh say 8 pm tonight (maybe 7:30), are actually by my alter ego, Jim Beam--I'm getting blitzed Kentucky-style! (last time I had a lonely, drunken night I was given the label of "Not Special" good times)

Back on topic: how does something get deflected from Alberta all the way into the Atlantic? That's the part that is blowing my mind.

It skipped off the atmosphere I think they said. Just like skipping a rock on water if it comes in at an oblique enough angle.

Keep in mind these things are going at huge speeds, kilometers per second.

That's especially comforting considering it nearly hit us...

That's what makes it fun! Put a Yugo on a house, it might cave in the roof.

Fill that Yugo with 5km/s worth of kinetic energy, now we're talking.

Yeah I'm well aware of the speed and damage things from space present, it just gives you a longer pause when you realize you could have been the poor schmuck underneath it.

I take it there's nothing NORAD could do about it? They wouldn't even try to shoot at a missile at it?

I don't think that a patriot missile would even be able to target it. That junk flies through the atmosphere faster then a nuclear missile payload.

Skin to skin kills would be impossible.

Not big or powerfull enough. They're designed for a collision kill, space junk doesn't care about that.

It might avert it slightly but not stop it.

I'd much rather die hit by space junk than from poisoning from tainted peanut butter products!

Gotta wonder just how much protection you would require to survive a direct (or near direct) hit from something like that.

Radioactivity was apparently a concern too. So even if you didn't get taken out by the fire ball, you could develop a few glow in the dark organs. Of course in my case they'd just match my liver then.

If it were to hit right on top of you, i'd recommend a underground bunker.
