Hey, I agree with you about the band haters crapping on threads. Just because someone does not like the music of a band does not mean that bad is, by default, bad.

But I'm not sure appointing yourself the Maturity Police isn't just as bad.

Oh come on, that would be like me Championing a 'death to sarcasm' thread.

Let the naysayers say their nay and get on with it.

Love Blink 182! Don't really give a tiny rats ass if they have mindless lyrics and such....I'm not looking for a new lease on life every time I put a CD in.

Because those were threads based on those topics, these music threads are about the bands, and most of the posts are one-liners about how much the poster thinks the band sucks.

Regardless, maybe I am overreacting a bit, but it just kind of sucks when you see a thread about a band, but when you go in to talk about the band you find it's just a bunch of comedians with not funny comments that they think are clever and witty.

Plus, I wasn't appointing myself the maturity police, that's why I left an open invitation for the mods to look at these threads and see what they think.

On top of that, you started by saying I was wrong to think the way I do of what happens in these music threads, but then went on to agree with me in your second sentance.

I think the only reason I ever disliked Blink-182 was because of the crappy knock offs they spawned (Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Bowling for Soup, etc.). I've tried to convince myself to that I don't like their music because it's so ridiculously simple but I do actually like quite a bit of it. I'd never buy an album of theirs but they have some pretty catchy tunes.

You were over-reacting. Suddenly you implied that these threads were turning into an unmoderated forum, and suggested the mods try to keep it mature. It almost seemed to me like you were calling the mods out. I guess I just didn't expect that.

As for the content of your post, I do agree with you. It sucks when anyone who makes a thread about a band suddenly has a few posters jumping and and insulting their taste in music, and it happens all the time. It sometimes seems that if a band has ever been played on commercial radio it suddenly sucks. I guess the only music that is any good is music no one had ever actually listened to.

I don't mind Blink 182. I don't have eny of their stuff, but I like some of their songs. One of my favourite bands is Stone Temple Pilots, who many on this board ripped when it was announced they were headlining Virginfest last year.

So yeah, I agree with your point about people thread-crapping; but I also think you over-reacted when you asked the mods for some maturity.
(the "Maturity Police" thing was just me being a smart-as$)

I definitly wasn't calling the mods out. It was just an open invitation to get their opnion on it. But really I should be talking to them privately if I have a problem.

It just seems like something is acceptable in band/music threads, but isn't acceptable in many other threads. IE If I went into a political thread and started going "Stephan Harper sucks, he sucks so much balls" and kept on making crappy one liners that add nothing to the discussion, it wouldn't be acceptable, but for some reason when people try to talk music and bands, it is acceptable and in fact the one liner, funny guys usually have more posts in a band thread than the people actually discussing the band.

lol, you need to go into more political threads then.

The whole, "Layton sucks" and "<insert any Liberal leader (Fed or Prov)> sucks" is fairly common.

You don't get much "Harper Sucks" simply because those people are then labeled communist sympathizers.

Dude...you dont want to invite the Mods' opinions on anything. They'll shut you down.

They're a group of stuffy, stodgy, non-fun loving fascists that love to beat down us creative regular folk that make the world turn round.

Its a form of Interweb Feudalism and we get stuck at serf-class.

I will probably get blasted for this, but I think he kind of is. Like you say, his energy is incredible and I really like how he drums for music beyond his main genre. Hell, I hate rap and I kind of like the songs he remixes with drumming.

While I'm not the fan I used to be, I've always really enjoyed their music. I thought the last album they put out actually took some steps in the artistic direction and I thought they pulled it off really well. I'm interested to see what Tom's time in Angels & Airwaves will bring to the music. I didn't love A&A, but stand by my opinion that if you took both albums, forced them to make sweet love and filtered out the garbage you'd get a really solid group of 8-10 songs.

Oh and Harper sucks.

Definitely a bad call from a career standpoint. Lately I'm always confused regarding their current haberdashiered status.

Boxcar Racer was alright at best, I will agree that A&A and +44 blew dead goats though. Not really into the genre anymore, but listening to them a few weeks back brought lots of memories and I still like their songs. Hopefully their stuff sounds closer to Dude Ranch than the newest one they did (self-titled).

Wow, same here - I picked up drumming after hearing Blink 182 play and love to hear Travis Barker playing. I confess Blink 182 was my first favorite band.

Its funny how many people say that, yet how many could truthfully say they never enjoyed listening to any of their songs at some point and time?

I liked boxcar racer ... as for the new album sounding like Dude Ranch I'd be absolutely shocked. Every album they put out slowly distanced themselves from that sound ... I would expect a new album by them to sound more like angels and airwarves than dude ranch to be honest.

I wanted to marry Mark Hoppus when Blink was popular. Him and Gavin Rossdale. I must go home and listen to the blink live album, I haven't heard it forever but it's pretty hilarious.
