Since the series ended, I've gone back and started to watch the DVDs. Unbelievable series really. I just finished watching the season 5 finale. I still cannot believe how gripping and intense this episode really was. I am shocked to this day, to watch that episode again.

Sorry if this is an unnecessary bump, but maybe this will spur more people to re-watch the episodes.

Will there ever be a show like this again?

Sorry to bump this. I hope this wasn't mentioned earlier in the thread, but Kurt Sutter - one of the writers of the Shield (and the guy who played bad-ass killer Margos) - has a new series on F/X called 'Sons of Anarchy'.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
Sons of Anarchy is an FX television series starring Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, and Katey Sagal about the lives of a close-knit motorcycle club operating in Charming, a fictional town in the San Joaquin Valley in Northern California. Sons of Anarchy was created by Kurt Sutter, a former writer and producer on The Shield, another FX television drama.
link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sons_of_Anarchy

It's pretty neat and, as pointed out by Wikipedia, is loosely based on Shakespeare's Hamlet. Seems like there's less moral ambiguity as the Shield, but is the same level of grit and detail. Just thought I'd let people know...

I tried watching that when it first started. They ran it immediately after The Shield. Just couldn't get into it, other than the camp value of Ron Perlman the rest of the actors were meh. By all means give it a shot, but it's a far cry from The Shield

Ya, it just wasn't on my radar at all. I figured maybe others might not have known about it (particularly if you're like me and you watched the Shield on dvds).

I can't comment if it's as good as the Shield. I don't think it will be, but I've only seen a couple episodes. To be fair, I thought the Shield started a little slow, so maybe good things to those who wait?

I am eagerly anticipating the release of a collector's edition DVD set with all 7 seasons and as much extras as they can feed me. By far, my favorite TV series of all time not called M*A*S*H*

Is that in the works? Not sure if I'll take that plunge. I used to own all the DVDs, sold them, and have now re-bought them to watch again. Not sure if I can justify buying them for the 3rd time, but if the special features are plentiful, I might not have a choice.

I don't know anything about it, but given the popularity of the show I think it is a no brainer!

I was watching Forrest Gump on TV last night(kinda flickin thru channels), and I was at the part where Forrest and Jenny are at the black panther party and the guy giving the speech as to why they were protesting the war sounded very familiar. I racked my brain for a bit and it came to me........hey, that's Julien from the Shield!!! Sure enough, did a little imdb research and sure enough, Michael Jace was in Forrest Gump......I love when I find little things like that.

Sons of anarchy is pretty vanilla compared to the shield. If it got a bit darker, it would be a great show.

How can someone lose that many discs? Make them rebuy the seasons for you.

Ill just replace them if i have to but i was hoping i could just burn them from someone else who had them .

How long before a complete series set with mega-super-special features is released?

I'm holding out for that!

I seriously miss the show. I don't know if I can call it the best TV show ever (certainly close) but it was by far the show that I was most caught up in EVER. If The Shield had Browncoats, I was one.

Oh that'll get released in about a year after I've spent another 50-60 bucks on season 7.

Season 7 came out today.

Here in Calgary, the cheapest place seemed to be Future Shop at $45.

Just finished watching the season for the third time, but this time on DVD. God, that last episode is so emotionally draining, but so bloody good. Still can't believe Vic selling out Ronnie like that, but damn it, that was good TV.

I'll miss The Shield, one of my favs of all time....good thing I have all seven seasons on DVD.
