Default An FYI for telus landline answering machine users

Theres a big scam that started just recently - apparently people who subscribe to telus landline answering machine/voicemail service have had their accounts hacked into and then jacked up to the max with long distance charges. One law firm here in Calgary recently had this happen to them and was nailed with 60K in long distance, yes you read right 60K!

So if you are a subscriber to this service, telus just advises you to constantly change your voicemail password. Unfortunately, if this does happen to you, you will still have to pay the charges as Telus will not do anything about it as they cant.

telus future is not f'n friendly with these moronos.

Why wouldn't this be Telus' fault? shouldn't their network/security system be sufficient enough to avoid this kind of happenings? Isn't it stupid when they this is going on and if you get scammed you'll still have to pay for it?

I guess the scam artists known as telus need to scam more to pay for their ######ed animated animal commercial that no one gives a hoot about.

I just wish telus gets wiped out or something.

I learned to hate Telus years ago, and I no longer have any of their services.

Even though I got rid of them, now I have to cover my ears when they blast their TV commercials at double volume. Over and over again.

Horrible company.

I agree, but no matter what Telus will still make you pay for it if this happens to you.

You guys don't get it. Telus revenue is down so their IT guys are the ones doing the hacking to inflate our bills. It's devious and brilliant.

No idea but its obviously a very thorough way of cracking into your phoneline.

Do you have a link to more information on this? I don't understand how something like that would work.

To me it looks bogus... only reference I can find is from 2006 and appears to be an identical story.

https://www.hackinthebox.org/modules...rder=0&thold=0

http://www.discusswireless.com/forum...hacking-P2799/

A link to a CBC story in the first link is now defunct or never worked.

That was about all I could find on it too.

Not that Telus doesn't deserve to be randomly bashed and flogged. They do enough things that are totally messed up that they deserve drive by smears.

Bell was targeted recently for this same thing - there was an interview on CBC about it last week.

This makes more sense... it appears the fraud is only taking place on voicemail SYSTEMS, meaning businesses. I don't think this applies to residential voicemail service you access through your phone like the original post makes it out to be. The hackers are getting into these systems (separate from the phone network, like a phone), then proceeding to dial out through the phone network. Of course the phone companies aren't at fault her, as far as they see it someone on your end initiated the call.
