Where does anyone get the idea that Rogers is willing to make a splash? Millar might be a decent signing, kinda sorta replacing Stairs.

Where do you get the idea that we have that idea? Huh?
I'd Say the theme of this thread is more of a fleeting hope they spend money kind of thing.
Stairs>Millar X 1 000 000 000. For one thing Stairs wasn't on a minor league tryout contract.
Apparently Adam Loewen can hit a baseball very well. Boner?

(Or you could just check out the Bastian article and formulate your own opinion).

"The Toronto Blue Jays avoided arbitration with reliever Brian Tallet and claimed right-hander T.J. Beam off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday.
Russ Adams, a first-round pick in 2002 taken in the club's first draft under GM J.P. Ricciardi, was designated for assignment to make room for Beam."
Jays only action this off season seems to be claiming players from Waivers. In the last couple of days the Jays have claimed two players from Waivers to make room Curtis Thigpen was designated for assignment and its intersting to see that Russ Adams was also designated for assignment.

"The Blue Jays are close to reaching an agreement on a Minor League contract with free-agent first baseman Kevin Millar, according to a report in the New York Post. The deal would include an invitation to attend Spring Training with the big league club. "Millar, 37, would seem to fit that description. Last season with the Orioles, the right-handed-hitting Millar posted a .234 average with 20 home runs and 72 RBIs in 145 games. Vernon Wells, who finished the 2008 campaign with 20 homers, was the only player to club at least that many long balls for the Jays last year. "
As for the Minor League Contract offer to Kevin Millar, personally I see this as a solid move. If Millar accepts the contract and if he makes the team thats great if not its no big deal.

If Millar comes in and outclasses Bautista's $2.4M I'll be happy.
Russ Adams...*sigh*.

It's pretty sad that we have to choose between a 2.4M$ Batista or a 38 year old Kevin Millar as infield bench players to make up for Overbay/Rolen injuries and Jmac suckyness.
If the kids (Schneider or Lind or both) end up filling most of the time at DH I would be OK with Millar off the bench. If Millar gets a bunch of at bats - .
Then again, not career worst years for Rolen and Overbay might help the situation.
But why sign all those random prospect infielders? The influx of cheap crap lately really makes me doubt that JP has any confidence in his system whatsoever. It is a flustercluck of players designed so that maybe one or two guys can have good years (out of the 10+) and JP can use that as a defence (for his job).
This team needs what the Oilers need - a front of house decimation.
Cito can stay if he wants to be a part of it.
Also rumours of MLSE buying the team...
Maybe I'll be a Nats fan...

Toronto makes another odd move...
http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=2665...headlines_main
"The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired 2004 first overall pick Matt Bush from the San Diego Padres, five days after he was designated for assignment."
Quote in the Article from the Padres
"We tried it with him as an infielder and that certainly didn't work out," Padres General Manager Kevin Towers said last week. "Got him on the mound, something that he was kind of a two-way guy in high school, and he pitched less than 10 innings for us in the Midwest League before he ran into elbow problems and had Tommy John surgery."

Seems like a nice "there's a one-in-a-million chance this guy becomes a star" kinda move.

At the end of the season JP said he expected to have the same starting infield, but Hill at 2B, Mac backing up the left side, Inglett super-subbing, and Barajas probably moonlights at 1st. He hasn't deviated from that. Millar is a DH and this guy sounds like a Leowen-type long term project.

Ricciardi is a ###### and the Jays are going nowhere 'til he's gone and is replaced by someone who doesn't have rocks in his head.

Abreu lands with the Angels. 1/5M, too bad, he would've fit in with this team well.

HBT: The Washington Nationals have agreed to a preliminary deal with free agent Adam Dunn, a signing that would fulfill their offseason-long search for a left-handed power hitter. Two independent sources have told the Post that Dunn will sign a two-year deal, possibly announced as early as tomorrow.
Dunn's arrival gives Washington perhaps its most legitimate power threat since baseball returned to DC, and closes the speculation about whether the club had a willingness to pay for higher-end free agents.
