Nancy Cartwright uses Bart's voice to promote Scientology event
Nancy Cartwright, the women who voices Bart Simpson, used the voice in robo calls to advertise a hollywood Scientology event.
Fox quickly issued a statement that it had nothing to do with the calls.
The online/'activist' group known as Anonymous quickly jumped on the call to continue it's crusade against Scientology.
Fox then combated Anonymous by having their videos containing images of Bart, and audio of the call, taken off YouTube.
Sounds like Fox is stuck between a rock and a hard place on this one because of the actions of one of it's most famous employees. Dunno if this will get bigger or is just one of the wacky news items of the week.
And any remaining desire to watch the Simpsons has gone out the window.
I don't get it, am I missing something? I think I share a lot of morals and general views on life as a lot of actors. And many of them are quite smart? So is there something I'm missing, or is it truly a cult?

It's a cult with very well designed brainwashing techniques that specifically targets people with money or celebrity or stature to be their spokespeople or public symbols but has hordes of poor brainwashed people under it spending more and more money for more and more training and treaments, etc. that go nowhere.
Yup I must admit, this lowers my opinion of The Simpsons franchise as well.
I always knew she was one of their biggest members but I kinda looked the other way. This changes it.
Scientology stinks, and the worst part is how they use famous people, giving them special treatment in the process, to use and brainwash those without power and money to further heir own aims.
Think the worst of multi-level marketing, like Amway, mixed with the worst of dogmatic religion and that would give you a good starting point for the evils of Scientology...
Heck, some of the videos recently released from their annual Freewinds party where all the higher ups gather to pat themselves on the back have even shown they have delusions in subversively spreading their 'religion' all over the world.
Lots of places you can go on the web to get started if you're interested. Scary stuff.

Are many actors really that smart? James woods is one of the few notables that comes to mind for an actor with a high IQ, and he's not a scientologist. Certainly physical traits come first, then personality, but I don't accord alot of intelligence with successful actors.
It is interesting how pervasive scientology appears to be in hollywood circles though. Maybe being a celebrity disassociates you from society, thereby disconnecting you a bit from reality. Also some powerful hollywood players are scientologists, so maybe some join for the connections to advance a career?
Maybe now is a good time to age the Simpsons a few years...and in the process, change Bart's voice due to puberty. Perhaps a side effect may be the ability to come up with some creative ideas, like they used to.
Using what is likely Fox copyrighted material to promote a cult is surely grounds for voiding her contract.
It is funny, I watched and I was like "nooo, it can't be", then I find out it is like 99.9 if not 100% true. Honestly, believing in god is one thing (I don't) and I don't knock you if you do, but believing in Scientology is ridiculously stupid.

How is it any stupider than some spaceman from a far away galaxy (heaven) sending his son on a suicide mission to earth to save the world from its sins. Dying, and then coming back to life and ascending back to outer space.

I know in the past that part of the contract the simpson's voice actors had was that they were not permitted to use the voices outside of the show without FOX's explicit approval.
Not at all surprised that some Scientology ######bag would disregard such obligations. I'd like to see the US government grow a set and strip that cult of its tax exempt status.
Who is the old guy they are saying id doing the talking there?
I really don't know anything about Scientology, and as much as I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt, that does sound pretty weird.
However, I realize that the internet is good for reliable information about religion about as often as it is good for unreliable information about religion. Other than heading down to the nearest Scientology church ( do they even call them churches?) or buying that book that guy was talking about, is there a website put out by the Scientologists themselves?

I took a course in university called "Cults of North America" (the most popular elective at McMaster at the time). There were 4 groups that each had an entire lecture devoted to them. Hare Krisha, Moonies, an anti-cult group (who actually seemed as bad as the cultists) and Scientology.

Doesn't Anonymous believe Scientology has underground slave camps or some crap? Or is that a different conspiracy? I think they're both equally wacky organizations.

You can get Bart out of that group no problem. I hear he's partial to hoverbikes...
Seriously though Simpsons needs to go away. In the mid-90's it was my favourite show, and I own seasons 4-6 and still watch them religiously. But that show stopped being funny 10 years ago.
