I use logmein as well, it's free for personal use, and I don't have to worry about firewalls and such, so it's great for your work PC or other places you don't have access to play around with firewalls.

For multiple copies of files, look into Dropbox or Syncplicity, keeps files synchronized across multiple computers. Free for smaller amounts of files (2GB).

I have 2 laptops and a desktop. My desktop runs XP pro and my laptops run Home. I can use Windows RDC and RealVNC to connect to my desktop from my laptops, but I can't seem to do the reverse. I understand Home doesn't allow you to log in with RDC, which is why I can't go from my desktop to any of my laptops. Is it the same with VNC? Or is there some kind of port setting I'm missing?
If you're looking to keep files synced between multiple computers, you may want to check out Microsoft's Live Sync, Live Mesh, or Skydrive.
They are all great consumer products from Microsoft that are poorly marketed (as usual) and all three services do some similar things just to confuse you.
Or you could just buy a couple of Macs and click the Share Screen button.

The only thing I don't know is if there's a limit to the number of PC's on one free account. You might have to get them to sign up for individual accounts and then know the passwords for each one.

If posssible can you run a packet sniffer on your home machine. I am curious as to the level of security on the logmein app.
If the scurity is any descent, I will walk over to Rogers at lunch and repalce my Razr3 with an iPhone.

If you're at all wondering how you're going to deal with synchronizing files or sharing files between multiple devices (including pictures w/ gallery functionality) then this is a great answer. Files are even read-only available on my iPhone. I would also strongly advise checking out the demo on the dropbox page to learn what the system can really do.
I bit the bullet and upgraded my host computer (office) from XP Home to Pro to have the "Remote Desktop" capability. It sounded like the simplist solution and with zero monthly fees, most cost effective.
Well, I have followed every instruction, step by step and I cannot get it to work.
So now, I am back to where I started... considering "Go to my PC" or "Log me in". They both offer one month free, so I just might try them both.
The file sync that a few people have commented on would be perfect for my situation. It likes both gotomypc and logmein have a variation of that. Does anyone have any comments as to why they would use a separate program for sync'ing?

Logmein has a completely free version, if you sign up you get a one month trial, but if you just let it expire it'll roll over to the free version. Fewer features, but if remote control is the point then it works great.

If your host computer is behind a firewall then you'll have to forward port 3389 to that host computer.
