The zoo admits that lack of oxygen probably killed the rays:

LOL at the second comment...

Good to see the zoo admit wrong doing. I wonder who the consulting company for the setup was.

Oops. I guess they won't get a recommendation this time around.

Are the people who commented on that all from PETA or something? Holy over-reaction.

The surface area of the tank was so large, I would have thought there was plenty of oxygen.

I'm not the best with aquariums, but I know that they all need some kind of oxygenation system. Simply having a large surface area isn't enough. I was at the zoo about a week ago and the oxygenation set-up for the Stingray tank is huge.

Make that 35 dead sting rays.

The zoo reopened the stingray exhibit in December, but abandoned the hands-on component. One of the 10 new rays delivered for the new display died of a parasite last week.

Hmmm shouldn't they have brought in some experts before setting up this exhibit? Pretty lame excuse. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt this time since i think it's one awesome zoo.

According to that article it said 41 stingrays were dead from before. 43 now including these 2.

Do we really need stingrays to touch here at the Zoo that badly? I'd rather them build a giant aquarium and have some whale sharks and blue whales in them. That would make it the coolest zoo in the world!

We saw lots of stingrays at the zoo today. They seemed healthy enough. You can't touch them anymore.

They are bringing them in from Florida where they would be Shark bait anyways. I guess when they are comfortable in the new environment they turn a lighter shade. A few weeks ago there were 8-10 of them and they seemed to be doing well. At that time they were planning to bring in a few at a time to bring the total up to around 20 or so. Pretty determined effort by the Zoo...
