I'm going at this with as open a mind as possible. Does it 'look' like the Star Trek I'm used to? Not really. But times, they are a changing. I heard some people in the theatre behind me last night, go "well that doesn't look so bad." So like everyone attached to this movie has been saying, It's a movie for movie fans, not Trekkies. So I'll see it. I'll continue to follow it. Hell I may even really like it! But its not classic Trek, its Neo Trek. And maybe thats a good thing....

Really? Didn't look at all like Galaxy Quest to me (which is a movie I actually love). Galaxy Quest is clearly an over-the-top satirical comedy. The tone of the trailer is quite serious and contains a lot of action and not much humour.
I really do like the trailer and I think the movie has a lot of potential... The next six months can't go fast enough for me.
I love the line in the trailer: "Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence."

Huge thanks to Dion for the signature!
Just the sets, the aliens, and the ship being built, all I could think about was Galaxy Quest. As I said, I don't know if that's good or bad. Maybe it's a credit to GQ, or maybe it's a diservice to the tralier. I don't know why I thought of it.

Interesting comments, considering I just recently read an inveriew with Abrams where he spoke about making a 'serious' movie in a post GQ world.
edit: Found the source.

For me, the costumes were a microcosm of the entire project, which was how to take something that’s kind of silly and make it feel real. But how do you make legitimate those near-primary colour costumes? How do you make legitimate the pointy ears and the bowl haircut? It’s ridiculous and as potentially cliched as it gets. How do you watch Galaxy Quest and then go make a Star Trek movie?
Stupid trailers.. actually making me have hope for this movie.
Yeah, in my circle of friends I'm really pounding the drum for this movie. I have a few friends who 'hate' Star Trek to get interested for it based on the trailers. I hope for the sake of the franchise and myself I don't have egg on my face!

I think it looks pretty good, but then I'm not really a Star Trek fan or anything. It'll probably have some ridiculous over-the-top scenes, but it could be entertaining.
