I thought it was a pretty good episode last night. It set up a direction for a lot of answers to be revealed. I'm also in the camp that Ellie is Daniel's mother from a different time, who is also Ms. Hawking, as it would explain how she knows about Ben and the island (during the "enhanced" episode of "The Lie" it said that Ms. Hawking's first name is Eloise which could be "Ellie" when she was younger)
Lastly and completely out of left field, I always thought that Charlotte was a grown up Annie, Ben's significant other from when they were kids. This was spurred on by the fact that she recognized the Dharma logo when she found the polar bear remains when we first met her (Charlotte) in the series.

This episode was interesting. Here's something to think about that sort of buggin me; When John met Richard in the camp, he told Richard that he was his leader. Richard said that wasn't possible as they choose their leaders from a young age. John then told him that we was going to be born in 2 years and Richard should visit him when he's a baby. We know that Richard does this, so it would seem that the Others have chosen John to be leader before he crashes onto the island.
So, here's my question. Does John crash onto the island and take his position as leader, or does he change his own future by going into the past and talking to Richard?
Would he even be on the island if "past John" didn't have that conversation with Richard in the first place?
It's almost like what came first, the chicken or the egg?

that was the best episode i've seen in a long time, specifically because Jack and Hurley weren't in it. things get a lot more interesting when they focus on characters like Locke and Desmond, everytime Jack does his patented "conflicting emotion face" i want to punch him in the mouth

I'd rather see Jack have his "conflicting emotion face" than watching Kate make yet another bad decision or a whole episode based on Ana Maria.

If Ellie is Daniel's mother then that opens up the possibility that Widmore could be the father. Timeline on the island, 50's would fit. Daniel and Penny half (or even full) siblings?
Then things get confusing.
Widmore funded Daniel's research. Daniel's mother is working with Ben, yet Widmore appears to know her whereabouts, i.e. that she is in LA. Does he know that she is working with Ben? Surely Ben knows the connection between the 2? Was Daniel born on the island? Did Widmore lead the orginal coup on the island (he comes across as a bit snotty, "no-one knows the island better than me") and was ousted by Ben or did he and Ellie leave the island?
Also could ghost boy and Dharma man be related?
So many questions .......

I think that Widmore was once leader of the "Others", however Ben took over the leadership role, and Widmore was cast out (moved the island I bet). It would play in a simliar fashion to Ben/Locke. Both have a mutual respect for each other, yet Ben hates that Locke was his replacement. Widmore/Ben seem to have a similar type of relationship.
As for the paternal theories
Ellie and Widmore don't seem to like each other (doesn't mean they won't giggity-giggity), but I do think Ellie is Daniel's mother.
If Ellie and Widmore do hate each other, it would explain her desire to help Ben in lieu of Widmore
I can see Myles being Chang's son. It would seem to fall together fairly well.
Charlotte was born on the island, but I would think to Dharma folks. I like the Ben's school yard crush theory.
Also I assumed Dharama build the hatch and all the stations, do you think that the Others build the hatch? Is the button every 108 minutes to keep radiation from leeking out? Did turning the key set off the bomb and a chain of time disruption events? Possibly most the island? What happened when the hatch blew?

Wow, reading this thread confuses me more.....
We really need to post pictures with names, otherwise I'll be forever lost in the 9,000,000 theories that are flying around about this show.
I seriously have NO idea what's going on...
But yet....I still enjoy watching it.

One more thing about Jughead. The woman who told Desmond that there was no Faraday in the Oxford records is the same woman who worked behind the Oceanic counter and helped Hurley get on the plane when he was running late.

So what did that episode accomplish? Maybe I just don't have the mental capacity to get my head around what is going on anymore, but I am so damn confused.

It sets up the telling of the Rouseau/Alex/Ben story. We also now know that Kate, Sun, Jack have reasons to go back to the island. Not much happened in this episode. I had a feeling that Ben was behind the lawsuit and they already gave away the fact that Jin was still alive.
What are you confused about?

I didn't make the connection as to who Danielle was, but now I remember, so many characters to keep track of. Do we really need to see her backstory? Show us the backstory of the dog too...

I made the connection as soon as I heard the french coming from the boat. I would really like to see the Danielle back story. She went crazy and killed everyone ... that's interesting to me.

Danielle's story definitely has importance to the island. I mean, isht, she's been on the island for 18 years and her daughter was stolen from her by Ben! Her team and their time on the island will be interesting to see. I just want to know if she'll end up being Jin's constant or the other way around...

The best way to look at it is to NOT follow/listen/come up with theories.

Well clearly they are hinting more and more that Miles was born on the island. As was Charlotte, at least that's what they want us to think with this whole "exposure to the island" theory.
Gin is alive. Rousseau story should be the basis of the next episode. Jack is getting super super annoying.

I will admit that Evangeline Lilly looks great right now, but the whole, "Why are they taking MY son??" crap is getting agitating. And to have the nerve to say it to Jack makes it even worse for me. In the end, Aaron is the nephew of Jack! Kate has been pissing me off for a long time now and I've reached my boiling point! I'll give my "hot" distinction to Juliet... Oh, those pouty, botoxed lips!
As for the show, I wanna know what happened to the rest (Rose, Bernard, etc.) of the camp, after the last flash. Jin being alive but with a pregnant Danielle has got to be messing with is head right now! He probably thinks he's dead.

With regards to the time travel, I think it was Ben that told Jack or someone that you cannot affect the path of people's lives, even if you do interact with them - Although it's entirely possible that I misunderstood that. I had completely forgotten about Richard visiting Locke.
One day I'm going to take a week off and spend it watching every episode of this show from start to finish. It's getting to be hard to remember everything. Homework for a TV show...Yuck.

Kate is still the hottest to me, but I agree ... Juliet is a pretty woman.
I'm glad Jin is back, he is one of my favourite characters and I was very disappointed when he "died"
