Norbit was expected to suck. It's an Eddie Murphy movie, afterall. Transformers was the result of taking a great franchise and wrapping it around a lame plot, weak action, poor acting, and trying to save it by ensuring the female lead played absolutely no role in the movie aside from showing off her boobs. That was, actually, the only redeeming quality of that movie.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still be seeing this one too, but honestly, there really is no possible way this movie is going to suffer from the problem of how sequels are usually worse than the originals.

Lame plot??....it's an invasion movie in which good robots and bad robots come to earth to battle over a cube, how would you change it?? And don't just say to get rid off all the army stuff and focus on just the robots, but you can't sustain a 2 hour movie with just robots.

bad acting??.....I'm with you there, but it's a popcorn flick, I can deal with it.

Weak action?? Come on....

Meh, to each his/her own.

I thought the first one was great. I wanted robot battles and that is exactly what I got. I was hoping they'd keep the theme song, but they didn't and that is fine with me.

They did keep any other things, such as starscreams relationship with megatron and so on. I loved those scenes. Brought back my childhood.

The only thing I really disliked about the first movie was that they made their mouths move, it looked a little lame to me.

Is this a serious quesstion?

Transformers give off a specific kind of radiation, they user that to measure the levels, if the levels are high that means you have had "direct contact"

They had mouths because stupid Hollywood execs who know nothing (like Lorenzo DiBonaventure) thought that they needed mouths to relate to audiences.

I hated the first movie's soundtrack. Generic Hollywood crap with no real theme or leitmotifs. Maybe I'm just too attached to Vince DiCola.

I also think it's stupid that they happen to all just become GM cars...and crappy ones at that. Jazz went from being a Porsche to a Pontiac Solstice! OUCH! Glad he got ripped in half!

Wasn't a big fan of the Australian Matrix/Lord of the Rings guy being Megatron. A name that brought nothing unique to the role. If you have Peter Cullen, why not Frank Welker as Megatron as well?

I think I'm one of the very few with high expectations for the first one that felt the movie fell very short of them. That said, I'm sure I'll end up seeing the second one, the preview looked awesome. I just hope its not as corny as the first one.

Holy crap.. this movie looks sick. For the people who thought the first one sucked, I challenge you to take it as a turn off your brain and be entertained type of movie. It's not going to change your life.

Transformers 2 looks freaking sick. I just watched the original on Blu-ray yesterday after the game and it made me jizz in my pants.

Holy.

I went to the first one in theaters, bought it on DVD, and have probably watched it a total of 8 or 9 times.

Are there really this many people that hated it? Or is everyone just grumpy because it's monday? This is seriously the first time I've heard anyone say they didn't like it, and it seems pretty unanimous in here.

The people that hate it are just a bit more vocal about it. Trust me, there are more people who like this movie than hate it.

I have a real hard time doing that with any movie. Unless it's intentionally trying to be stupid and not taking itself too seriously. This one obviously was taking itself seriously.

To be fair, I'm not a huge action movie, summer blockbuster guy. I didn't go see this in the theaters, though I loved transformers as a kid. Just looked like another over-hyped cash-cow type 'blockbuster' that hollywood seems to be in love with nowadays.

I was discussing this with a few friends lately, there seemed to be way better movies out even ten years ago then there have been lately. Transformers is certainly not the only one to fit this mold.

There are definitely some action movies I really like, but all of them had way better plots and dialogue and made more sense even in an escapism sort of way.

The Rock, Boondock Saints, Pulp Fiction, Snatch, would be examples of action or action oriented movies I really enjoyed.

There were people who hated the movie before it came out because of Michael Bay. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people hating in this thread were the aforementioned Michael Bay haters.

It's not so much that it offends my brain but it breaks my heart because it rapes my childhood.
