This isn't about being able to watch U.S. commercials, not totally at least. I can watch those commercials online later if I really want to. For me, I'm po'd because I pay money for the U.S. channels so I can watch U.S. content. I don't pay for those channels so I can watch a pizza hut pasta commercial 12 times or the Russel Peters Juno spot 15 times. If I want to see those I can easily watch my local CTV station. I know people have jokingly said this is borderline facism but I'm not so sure it isn't. The CRTC decisionmakers must think they know what we want better than we do ourselves.
It is the same reason I don't listen to local radio much anymore. Cancon thinks I need to listen to a certain percentage of Canadian music over their regulated airwaves. Cancon can b**w me. The next step for them is to start running Canadian commercials over the satellite radio stations I listen to.
These dudes are evil people. Evil!

I think it's time to get a DirecTV subscription. All you need is a valid US address for subscription purposes. This way, you're still paying someone for the signals, and it's not outright stealing like hacking into pirated systems is.
If the CRTC doesn't want to listen to us, then why put up with their archaic way of doing things. This is only going to continue and get worse. CTV, Global, and the rest will never get it right, and they'll continue to take advantage of this rule and do things like add additional promos for their networks while they should be going back to the original telecast.

Because CTV only has high definition (HD) transmitters in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto, the network can only request that Canadian cable companies operating within those three areas simulcast HD signals.
This means that HD cable subscribers outside of the Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto grade B contour should be able to watch the NBC-HD version of the game complete with U.S. commercials. Customers in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto will watch the simulcast signal

This seems to have been the case. When I talked to my buddy in Calgary(who was watching it in HD), he said he was getting the Canadian commercials. But when I called another buddy here in Deadmonton, he was indeed getting the U.S. commercials on his HD feed. Ohhh why didnt I go to his Super Bowl party? We got peasantvision over here so I was stuck watching the Panago fata**. I really hate that guy.

CrapTV really ruined things this past weekend, especially during the Jets - Steelers game.

How did it ruin the game? Sure the stupid dude running around the streets in that terrible costume is annoying, but I don't think any of the game was missed.
Seriously, what a waste of ad time. Nobody wants to watch your terrible CTV shows anyway.

Since this ridiculously old thread has been brought back, and I spent too much time finding the current post, I'll continue ...
Is there any way to watch a true US feed of the Superbowl this year (without a US satellite setup) in Calgary? I assume no ... As Ducay pointed out, they may as well show the US commercials since all they are doing is filling airtime with a stupid and fake football player in a cybertech costume running endlessly ... what a waste.

I swear that after the 30th time seeing those fillins I was going to throw a shoe through my brand new T.V., but then I thought "Really who throws a shoe"

Anyone else on ShawDirect (starchoice) still getting the american feed? Because I am, got it for the superbowl last year too, when apparently they had put a stop to it.

What executive at CTV saw those bumper ads, and said, "Hey, those are great! People are going to love robots running past our show ads in downtown Toronto. Run with it."
I'm sure it will drive me over the edge during the Super Bowl.

That CTV commercial had to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen in my life. Why is he running with a motorcycle helmet through the street? CTV needs to figure it out

He would have worn a real football helmet but then people could see his face. If I was in that commercial I would wear a full face helmet as well...

They have been missing plays here and there, and there have been a lot of audio dropouts. People with CBS or FOX directly have said everything's been fine.

I have Shaw Digital Cable and last year i got the US regular feed from the HD channels.
I'm in Edmonton however so it may be different than Calgary.
Here is to hoping that i get it again this year!

As long as you don't have a local HD station for CTV, you should be fine.

So....whats the verdict? No way (on shawcable) to watch American commercials live in Calgary?
