The reactions from Nadal's father are hilarious. He's so tense.

Federer fell apart a little in the fifth....disappointing.
Congrats to Nadal though, who must have been achy and tired. Played a great match.

I've never really liked Nadal but that was gutsy. In 3-4 years he might have as many majors as Roger.

Congrats to Nadal.
Lives up to the number one seed billing. Proves he can match Federer on hardcourt. Now a 12-4 lifetime record in 5-set matches in majors.

We are so lucky to be able to watch 2 of the greatest of all time go head to head as much as they do. I'm a little disappointed in Roger during that last set but what a great match! I'm really happy I stayed up to watch it!

Sometimes I wonder if Federer looks at the draw, and just prays that SOMEONE beats Nadal. Anyone, a qualifier, any of hte other contenders, just so he doesn't have to face him.
I actually hope it happens. Someone beats Nadal on a complete fluke at the FO, and let the 2nd best clay court player take an FO. Then his career is basically complete, and it'll be up to Nadal to race against the history books.
Amazing match the first 4 sets. Federer completely blew it in the 3rd set or he'd have won.

I wish this event were timed a little differently. I only watched the first two sets (which looked just like Wimbledon all over again), but that was late enough for me.
It's weird watching Federer-Nadal: you can say that you may be watching the best player ever to play the game, and not be talking about Federer.
Total privilege to be able to watch this rivalry (or at least, 2 sets of it).

What would be the point of that? Federer winning the French without beating Nadal would be a bit hollow. Nadal could achieve winning all 4 grand slams finals against Federer.

hehehe true but that's how it is. Aussies have to watch the US Open in the middle of the night.

I was going for Federer but props to Nadal. He is quite the tennis player. In the future, they won't be talking about Sampras or Federer in terms of all time grand slam titles, they will be taking about Nadal. He is 21 years old and already has 6 grand slam titles.

He's 22, no?
Regardless, he's still getting better and more than enough years in front of him to catch Sampras and/or Roger.
Feds is gong to have to dig deep and find something in his game to beat this kid. One of the commentators last night mentioned that Federer hasn't been able to elevate his game against Nadal because he doesn't have to do it against anybody else. He's probably right. It's been too "easy" for too long.
Kind of reminds me about Detroit's failures in the post-season for a while despite winning the President's trophy more years than not.

Federer is beating himself when it comes to Nadal. Federer, IMO, has more than enough skill and talent to take Nadal, he just... changes everything when he goes up against him. It's bizarre.

Not just against Nadal, Federer's always been a bit fragile. He's won his majors over the years because he was so much more talented then everyone and blew them away. But whenever someone pushed him to 4 or 5 sets he would always get a little tight. I believe his career 5-set record isn't that strong... around 50% whereas Nadal is closer to 80%.

I think it's because Nadal goes all out all the time. He runs everything down all the time, and hits great shots as well. Federer seems to get down on himself when his usual winners are coming back all the time.
I mean, this match was a great example of Nadal being some sort of tennis playing robot, and Federer not being able to maintain his mental game in the face of that kind of adversity.
Federer is used to cruising through matches, turning it up every now and then, and basically playing just well enough to win, but not worrying about having to play great the whole match. Nadal forces him to have to try to go for every shot, and he's just not used to that pressure (yet).
I've still got a feeling that Federer is going to amp up his game and take Wimbledon (and maybe make a good showing in the French).

It pains me to see Federer consistently getting beat by Nadal (of late). Nothing against Nadal - I'm just a big fan of Rog...

Me too. At this point Roger probably knows that on most days Nadal will come out on top - simply because he's younger. So Roger is trying to just get as many majors as he can - knowing full well though that each missed opportunity gives him fewer and fewer chances.
The shot making from both players though at times is mind-boggling.

And your right, watching federer in tears was pretty hard to watch
Its a good thing Nadal was very understanding, you could tell he was feeling for the guy!
