As with the family that is shown on the poster....a church will jump in to help gather the minds and hearts of all the children.

I wonder if that woman will look for a husband online?

If she has another litter she'll have a hockey team. If they each have at least a mediocre NHL career (150 points) they'll destroy the Gretzky family record for most points by one clan.

My biggest issue with this (and honestly I don't care that much) - is that it's likely that at least 8 embryos were implanted via IVF - I think that is absolutely irresponsible. Most clinics will not implant more than 2 if you're under 40 and 3 if you're over 40. Here in Calgary, they are very strict about this, and it is my understanding that most other fertility clinics in North America are the same.

Jon and Kate ended up with 6 kids without undergoing IVF - they had an unmonitored IUI cycle with fertility drugs. That's a completely different ball park than when you're dealing with IVF and fertilized embryos.

Probably not, but it would be like throwing a bb down a bowling lane.

Nah, you put her on top of your head, and its not a hat, its a belaclava.

You'd need a miners helmet to find your way back out.

Gadzooks foiled again. I actually know where the eye hole is, its just to crude to describe it.

I've also thrown out the whole White Walled for her pleasure thing.

I dunno, my girlfriend is #3 out of 12 kids and that family has made it work quite well, although the sad thing is that she had to do so much mothering to the younger ones while the real mom was...ahem...busy.

So 14 kids might be outrageous but it would be unfair to say that they couldn' make it work.

Preterm births in Canada have jumped a staggering 25 per cent over the last 10 or 12 years, new data released Thursday by the Canadian Institute for Health Information show.

Even people in the business of delivering babies were surprised by the magnitude of the increase, which is due to a variety of factors tied into the fact that women are waiting until they are older to have children.

...

Preterm and small for gestational age babies add considerably to health-care costs, needing lots of additional and high tech care. For instance, a baby born at 750 grams – about 1.5 pounds – will need, on average, $120,000 worth of health care before he or she goes home from hospital, the report said.

A normal weight, full term baby costs the system under $1,000, Christilaw said.

I see what you're saying. However, in this situation there was no need to implant four embryos. If you already have six kids at home, it seems one embryo should be enough. My neighbor's daughter was referred to as a "five day old dish" so the medical staff was fairly certain if the egg hadn't split by then, it most likely wasn't going to. Medical professionals are capable of reducing the chance of women having this many babies.

As far as who's going to pay for all these kids, I'm pretty sure the taxpayer will be picking up a fair amount of that bill.

More details have come out about the mother: http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/0...orld/octuplets

She's 33, unmarried and has had all of her children via in vitro fertilization. Her eggs were all extracted and fertilized by the same man's sperm many years ago, and the embryos were frozen. Apparently, she didn't want these final 8 to go to waste, so she had them implanted.

Her mother says that she's been obsessed with having children since she was a young girl, but that she had no desire to get married.

Somehow, she has found the time to get a degree in child and adolescent development and is working on a Masters in counseling.
