There is nothing wrong with these people. Since when was wanting a family and children a terrible thing???? Would I want 14 kids .... no but just because these people did doesn't make them terrible people. Or flawed people. And those "BRILLIANT GENES" you speak of may one day do great things. You can't assume they will want to have a big family because they were born into on. You can't condemn a person because their parents had a big family. I personally wouldn't condemn someone for not terminating a pregnancy because it was 8 babies instead of one. This Mom wanted another child and was blessed with more than that. As long as these children are loved and cared for then there is no reason for you or anyone else to ask what is wrong with them! Closed minded people are really the problem with this world, not people who want and have a family.

I hesitated posting it because it's been done so many times before, but in the end I'm happy with my decision.

I don't think that anyone is suggesting that they terminate. I think the point is somewhere more in the realm of why would someone who has 6 kids be taking fertility drugs?
If I had 6 kids I would be doing my own home vasectomy with a Zippo lighter and a hacksaw, not going down to the fertility clinic to get some more pills.
But thats just me.

14 is a lot of kids.... growing up my best friend was the oldest of 10 kids.... of course number 10 didnt come til we were already juniors in high school. It did always amuse me how they would take a group out to dinner and then come back home and take the other half out for dinner......
another plus of that situation is the mom didnt really work but she did train most of the miss Oklahomas. In return for the services of the training the beauty queens did work around the house, baby sitting etc...... So point of that story is we always met at his house to decided what to do , that way we could oogle the beauty queens...

Give me a break. You really think that a single parent with 14 kids will be able to care of these kids at the same level as someone who has 2 or 3? Do you not realize the price of raising a child? Health care costs? School costs? Hell, food costs alone will sink her. To sustain these kids, this woman will have to work 3 jobs.
This woman still lives with her parents, so clearly she is either still young or just hasn't got her life together enough to leave home. How the hell is she mature enough to raise 14 kids? I don't have children myself, but I'm going to make the crazy assumption that loving them and giving them huggy-wuggy's is not enough.

The outrage is that some doctor actually provided a mother of 6 with fertility treatments. I would have asked for a psych eval first, plus, in a world of scarce medical resources, I hardly think a mother of 6 qualifies as infertile and entitled to such medical treatment.

Apparently she is married, but her husband is in Iraq. That is why she lives with her parents. She is in her early to mid 30's.
I don't agree however with her using fertility drugs when she has had 6 children.
I also don't agree that even with her parents help that those children will all get the time and attention they need.
Also isn't there a huge possibility of some of those babies having lifelong problems from being born so soon, the smallest was only 1.8 lbs.
Who is going to pay for the expected huge costs of health care for these babies?

Pfft, whatever. Jon and Kates show is 10x better then the lump of crap this family puts on the air. The Duggers have to be the most bland family ever. Who proposes to a girl without even kissing her? EVER?.
Atleast Jon and Kate is funny to watch. Jon says something, and Kate cracks the whip @ it. Its awesome...
uhhhh... ofcourse, I assume this is what it is like since I have never seen the show, ever.

Their insurance company.
God Bless America.
Unless of course someone gave someone fertility treatments who can't afford insurance...

I don't see what the issue is, other than it is not what most people would consider normal. I can't imagine that they were aiming for octuplets. They were probably aiming for one. Unfortunately, fertility programs are not so simple to be able to guarantee a specific number of children.
I am the seventh child of seven, eighth if you include a child that died at two months. My parents were not financially wealthy by any stretch of the imagination. But we all turned out just fine. Growing up, I thought my family was nuts. But as I learn more and more about other families, I believe that we have substantially less family strife than the average family of 1-3 children.

If that is what they want in life, then fine. I guess turning out extra kids makes the sweatshop more profitable. I can't wait for my daughter to be able to sew a straight stitch.....

I totally agree. The number of kids involved here isn't the issue for me. I do not believe that having more kids makes it any harder to give them the love they need.
I personally think that they should have considered a more gradual pace of childbirth...
