I just read about this. Sounds like the husband and wife worked together at a hospital, and both lost their jobs. They agreed that this was the best solution for the family. They didn't want to leave their children with strangers.

Horrible story. Absolutely terrible.

Used to work right near that neighborhood. Largely latino, but very much working class. Proud people to be sure.

These stories are always horrible and sad. Still, I don't understand how someone can come to that conclusion.

i'll never understand how someone can murder a toddler/child, let alone their own son/daughter.

I read it and never noticed anything about the mother agreeing to this. I just can't see a mom doing this for financial reasons.

I read it off a different site that in the letter that the father faxed to the TV station, it claimed that the parents agreed that this was the best for the family.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/0...d/bodies_found
Quote:
Shortly before the killings, the man faxed a letter to a TV station claiming that he and his wife had been fired from jobs as medical technicians and she suggested they kill themselves and their children, too.
Quote:
Although the fax asserted that the woman was involved, police Lt. John Romero said, "It is apparent that the suspect in the murder is the male adult."

Wow. Economic hardship as a reason to take your own life is hard to understand, I can't even imagine justifying an entire family. It's just money.

This is eerily similar to the case that occurred just after New Years in Quebec:
http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=1143353
Quote:
A Quebec mother of three was charged with three counts of first-degree murder Monday following an alleged New Year's Day murder-suicide pact that left her husband and children dead.
Quote:
There is speculation the couple couldn't find a way out of their financial troubles as the economic downturn worsened. Marc Laliberte, 46, filed for bankruptcy for the third time only two months before the tragic events.
Hopefully these incidents do not set a precedent for others in despair over losing their jobs or other financial crisis.

There are reports that this man's boss or supervisor said that he should have put a bullet in his own head prior to firing him. Probably glib media sensationalism but it's pretty cold and terrible.

Reminds me of the loser here in Calgary (Dalhousie) that did a similar thing to his family last year.

I'd like to know what the facebook laws are. CNN posted a family photo they had on facebook... obviously, someone who knew the family gave it to CNN who promptly put it up. Not sure how they can do that... or when you upload to facebook are you assuming that if your friends want to give your photo to CNN, they have that right... even if you're dead.
