Default Gung Hey Fat Choy!

Happy Chinese New Year!

Year of the OX

People born in the Year of the Ox are patient, speak little, and inspire confidence in others. They tend, however, to be eccentric, and bigoted, and they anger easily. They have fierce tempers and although they speak little, when they do they are quite eloquent. Ox people are mentally and physically alert. Generally easy-going, they can be remarkably stubborn, and they hate to fail or be opposed. They are most compatible with Snake, Rooster, and Rat people.

You are a born leader.
You inspire confidence.
You are demanding.
You are methodical and good with your hands.
You will make a good surgeon, general or hairdresser.
Feel free to patronize your favourite chinese restaurant as there is a moratorium on gun play for this occasion

Although this is my 3rd New Year in a Chinese environment, it's the first time I feel like I'm really celebrating it in a traditional Chinese way. I have spent the last two days eating basically non-stop while going around to my fiancee's various family members homes and hanging out, talking and watching terrible new year's TV programming. Before coming to China I never envisioned that people here would eat a lot, but food is so central to the family experience here and people pack it away for hours.
I kind of feel like among my WASPy friends in Canada the basic necessity of a celebratory get together is booze, and that as long as there is something to drink the evening will go on, whereas here it's all about something to eat.

Good thing it's Chinese food.

I've never had a haggis I wanted more of an hour later.

So as a guy who works in an Irish pub(i know, not Scottish) that celebrated Robbie Burns day, i will let you know the haggis was actually really good still today.

Haggis is good to eat for days, and whatever people may think about haggis it's much more appetizing from a Western perspective than a lot of the food I've eaten the past few days.
