This sentence reaffirms my distaste for democracy.

Seriously. Enough.

That's partisan politics in general. You really aren't allowed to say anything positive about your rival. And the "we just want power" statement is consistent across all parties past, present, and future.

I realize this, but it doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.

I think we need to stop treating politics like sports; stop watching from the stands and admiring the game... These people work for us and make decisions every day that affect millions of people. They should be held accountable for those decisions.

Meaningful change is no longer the pipedream it once was.

What, precisely, has Miggy ever led? Ok, the Liberal party for a month... but besides that? He's only been back in the country for a couple years. He hasn't demonstrated any leadership abilities.

As for being a "great intellect", that's what they said about Dion. We know how well that worked out.

As long as people vote along partisan lines meaningful change will be difficult. When there is a real possibility of voters changing the government, then there is the real possibility of change.

I know this is a federal politics thread, but the issue is even more stark at the provincial level. How worried do you think Stelmach is? How effective are the opposition parties, with little/no possibility to form a government?

How about on the municipal level? There is a lot of griping about Bronco in this forum, but the incumbent always wins in Calgary. Even at the alderman level, in the last 3 or 4 elections I think the number of incumbents who ran and lost could be counted on my finger, and probably on one hand.

If you want meaningful change, you can't expect it to come from the representatives who always retain their positions by doing the same thing.

I'm guessing that isn't the only thing you would get jiggy with.

Nicknames are not owned or possessed. The are like respect (or disrespect)...they are earned. People can argue over who is deserving of a particular nickname, but if you think the nickname is deserving, then you will use it.

This really shouldn't be like those NFL RBs arguing over 'Smash and Dash', or whatever it is. Lawrence Taylor and LaDanian Tomlinson are both LT, I'm fine with that.

Why can't we all just get along?

And don't get me started on people who try to start their own nicknames...
