Default GDT: QC Flames @ Grand Rapids Griffins - 1/22/09

I know its a bit early. But I am sure you guys are used to HalifaxDrunk having a few hour headstart on you guys! I wanted to try this out and see if it musters any interest. I took some time to throw together some info for the game. I took a lot of ideas based off what HD puts in his. Figuring out how to do it has been an experience. I wanted some structure to my layout but html is not possible and BB code is too cumbersome. So here is a GDT for the baby Flames!

Grand Rapids will be a tough foe. At times they have had lights out goaltending from both their goalies. Howard used to be the future of wings goaltending, but he seems to have been surpassed by Daniel Larsson. They have several talented young forwards with high nhl expectations like VIlle Leino, Darren Helm, and Justin Abdelkader. They even have AHL vet Darren Haydar on the roster. Also at forward, they have the Wings tough guy from last year, Aaron Downey. On D, they have a couple top prospects in Jonathan Ericsson and Jakub Kindl. Ericsson has been touted as thenext big thing, but by all accounts has sucked it up this year.

Grand Rapids beat us at home earlier in the season and this is our only trip to Grand Rapids this year. (though they also play tomorrow night in GR as well)

QC wen up early on a Greentree PP goal, but GR tied it up late. Shootout wasn't even close. QC 3 misses, GR with 3 goals.

Why do they let the shoot out continue when the last shot would be pointless?

Thanks for the thread!

AHL shootouts are 5 rounds. well, unless you are down by 3 with 2 rounds to go that is...

We're in Grand Rapids for the weekend....and I've got to say, last night was one of the best overall efforts that I've seen from the Flames since they came to the QC!!!

Awesome game....the Griffins aren't very physical, and we were hitting like there was no tomorrow. Keeping them on the outside, knocking the puck away, buzzing around. Keets played great and fought off flurries of shots....so totally proud to be a Flames fan last night!!!

The shootout....we knew was a lost cause. It's okay. We had already won the moral victory!!!

Also very cool that the guys appeared to be very pleased when we showed up at the glass during warmups and they saw we were at the game! Big smiles, waves, a couple of pucks to the glass....it's good to be appreciated!!! LOL
