Some not so great pictures from just west of Okotoks of the Sheep River taken a short time ago on Highway 549.
In the first, you can see houses on a cliff in Okotoks . . . the main part of downtown would be just around the corner and would be about eye level with the water. I think they've closed the main bridges crossing the Sheep in Okotoks.

And the Sheep over the banks. Normally, you wouldn't even see the river from this spot.

Yes I was. It wasn't at his house yet but was obviously inching closer.

Also, you've got a hot sister if she's the one I've seen picking up the mail at the box occasionally.

Yeah I work out in Okotoks in the development right next to the Sheep River and was out there today. The storm pond in that development itself is like a lake now, almost touching the pathways and covering a few trees. There's a big rock dam that goes right through the pond that you can't even see anymore.
The actual river is so high, it's taking out part of a campground I drive by everyday and they had to evac a couple buildings that were close to the banks. My boss was getting so many calls today from residents that were afraid of flooding and wanting sandbags and such.

I remember not even a week ago when the river was at it's normal level and then to see where it's at now is actually quite amazing...

Rain? What rain? We haven't had any rain since January! :P
Man, those pictures Cow posted reminds me of what it was like in Okotoks back in '95 or '96 when the "mighty" Sheep spilled her banks. It completely flooded the campground and the ball diamond there wqas under three or four feet of water. That was a wild spring. Must be something to see right now. Keep safe fellas.

I just talked with my stepmom and she said that the back section of their land (including a fairly large barn) is totally underwater. So far the house is in no immediate danger, but the river is rising so quickly that they are on a canoe alert. I'm wondering where all the animals are huddled at this point though (80 head of cattle, horses, pet ducks and a dog)??
I also told her to watch out for a strange man masquerading as a reporter peeking through the windows trying to take pictures of her. |

 Good thinking!!

You guys have got a lot of cows. Any thoughts of evacuating them somehow or do you just shuffle them up the hill or something?

Can cows swim? I'm sure they can float if not.

We have quite a bit of land there, so if the water gets too high I'm sure they can be moved up the hill if need be. However, if the water gets THAT high I'd say the cattle are the least of the concern.

Did I hear correctly that they've evacuated regions near High River and the residents of High River are to be prepared for an evacuation?

I just got back from sandbagging my sister and brother inlaws place, they live on the Sheep just east of Black Diamond. They had to evacuate about 2 hours ago. I couldn't believe how fast the water rose. One minute we were sandbagging the next minute part of the river diverted onto the property and cut through the front yard. If we stayed another fifeteen minutes we wouldn't have been able to drive out. Brutal.
