Upgrade tips for Flights to Europe
It looks like i am flying to Germany for business at the end of February.. Anyone have any tips on getting upgraded to First Class? I have meetings as soon as i arrive the next morning and it sure would be nice to relax in the nice seats
I would even pay a bit but i can't afford or justify the $4000 fare for first class vs the $1500 for regular. The flight appears to fairly empty at this point
Thanks all

Good luck. I fly almost every month, and over the last 4 or 5 years I've been upgraded once, and I ask all the time. Airlines are getting more and more strict about upgrades, some going as far as threatening flight attendants with their jobs if they do it.
I have another buddy that flys a lot, and he told me to always ask the gay male attendant when you get on the flight, because the women are usually biyatches. Also ask the lady at check in to put you on a stand by list for first class as well, depending on the airline some will do it.
I'd also keep your eyes open on craigslist for upgrade passes, they pop up on there every once in a while.

Its very hard, its usually done with people using points from the various alliances, star, etc..
What airline are you using?

You could always just ask for an Exit-row seat, you usually get more leg room there.

And MB won't pay for you to fly business class? Write an angry letter.

MB is paying for everything overseas.. The dealership is paying for the flight. I could pay the diff i suppose but it is still crazy money to do it.
Wasn't the top in Canada just at our store.. I was about 25 in the country this year which isn't too bad for little old New Brunswick...

I think I saw this on the Office when they flew to Winnipeg.
Get on very last and if there any open seats in first class at that point, jump in one, and pretend you are asleep right away.
Flying to Europe sucks.

Most likely won't happen.
Airlines usually don't have a problem filling up first and business class

Boobs would make a difference to a 55 yr old, female, grandmother, 25 year union seniority flight attendant?

i usually fly first class to calgary from Okc but mainly because i use miles to do it ..... The flight attendants seem to look down on economy class customers. I have heard rude and disparaging comments like the lady wants to move to a better seat? well tell her poor ass to pay for it . or sure you can upgrade them to economy plus but im not letting poor people in first class.....

On a recent flight back from Paris this woman had gotten on before us and I noticed the flight attendants had a box of chocolate sitting there and one of them said to the other "passenger in whatever row" which was a couple of rows in front of us. Didn't think anything of it until after we were seated and one of the attendants came over to her with a drink and said "thanks for the chocolates" or some other thing. A couple of minutes later he came back and said "oh Ms. Williams there seems to have been a mistake on your seating assignment come with me" and he whisked her up to 1st.
I thought that was a heck of an idea. Even if that approach doesn't work everytime, if it works once, it's worth it.
I'm flying out on Valentine's Day and am hoping the combination of it being my birthday and the box of chocolates I bring gets us bumped.

Seriously. It's about as hard as picking up a good looking waitress. As in near impossible. I used to fly AC all the time, to the point I was an "Elite" member, and it still didn't happen. It's really difficult to upgrade by asking, and complaining, demanding people just get scoffed at by attendants.
The best thing you can do is try to get a middle row all to yourself, which I do when I fly to Australia and the plane isn't full. When everyone is on board and the attendants finish their head count, get up and go to the can. On your way back sit down in an empty row, claim all the blankets, and ignore anyone else around you. I get 4 seats to myself all the time, and it's like laying on a couch for the flight.
