Default Red Light Cameras

So I just went through a red light (well slid through it because ice had begun to form), and i'm a little worried i'm going to get a ticket. I drove back around, and noticed that the light was indeed marked with one of those signs indicating it was present but I didn't notice any camera setup on like there is at other intersections. So I guess what i'm asking is there a chance that even though there's a sign there, there's actually no red light camera? The intersection is the one on 14th St. and 10th Avenue SW.

Second question, is how much is a red light camera ticket? I was told by my fiancee if that you go down and talk to them they will cut the fine in half, but I doubt that very much.

Even in daytime, you should have seen a flash

Hard to tell. Car came up behind me right when I looked back.

I think I may have, but a car with really bright lights came up behind me. I guess it depends on where the picture is triggered. I was more than half way through the intersection when it turned red.

You have to enter the intersection with the light red to get a ticket.

As long as you kept going, you should be fine. The basic timing of the camera is that you must hit the stop line with the light already red doing the speed limit for it to trigger. So if you are in the intersection when it turns red, and you are going the speed limit (or faster) you are OK.

The flash is VERY noticable. If you aren't positive there was a flash, chances are you didn't get pictured. Either way, as mentioned unless you went past the stop line while the light was red, you won't get a ticket. From personal experience I have been flashed/pictured twice but have yet to get a ticket. This is because I was in the intersection when the light turned red, I was barely in, but I was still in. So you should be fine.

Yes. When there is a camera at an intersection, they mark all directions with a sign even if that direction doesn't even have the camera.

I heard through the grape vine that these camera's are very expensive to run and quite often they do not have them turned on. Perhaps that was the case in this scenario.

^^ I think more accurately they are very expensive to purchase, so if the city has 50 red light camera intersections, they might have 30 physical cameras that get rotated through those intersections.

As someone who has gotten one of these tickets, I can tell you that if it was at all dark or dusky, you would know if you had your picture taken.

And trust me you don't want one of thest tickets, it was ~ $280.

Winnipeg is really annoying for this...speed/red light cameras all over the freaking place.

My father has gotten 6 or 7 tickets ranging from ~$110-170 bucks over the past few years. I'm an angel though

You know what Winnipeg is really annoying for?

Drivers who run red lights.

Isn't there a double flash as well?

I heard that because of a general lack of cameras the city has a web site where they show exactly which locations have cameras in them and which locations are just empty shells. I've not seen it and somehow doubt it's existence, but the reason I heard was they are required to do that for some legal reason--not that it's much help for those getting dinged.

I think so? Or at least, they are supposed to take two pictures - one of your car entering the intersection while the light is red (i.e. crossing the stop line) and one of your car actually going through the intersection while the light is red. If they don't have you entering the intersection on the red (the first photo), then you can't get a ticket. At least that's how I understand it.

My hubby is waiting to maybe get one of these. Ran the yellow at Macleod and 12th ave (I think?) near the 'dome. Middle of the afternoon a week or two ago and the flash was definitely noticable. I hope it was yellow when he went through because yeah, those tickets are $280.

You should go back, run the red light again, and this time watch for a flash. That way you will know for sure

Haha yes. To clarify, my dad only got tickets for speeding (he forgets where the cameras are and doesn't hit the brake when approaching them like everyone does)

I've heard these expensive cameras don't like laser pointers pointed into their lens.
