Sorry that I am not fawning over some loser because he is black and that I don't feel it necessary to manufacture some sort of "historic" BS.

Dude....it IS historic, whether you choose to accept that or not.
Think about this...the very steps he will be taking the oath on were constructed by slaves. Black slaves. His skin color has a huge bearing on this historic day.
And how can you call him a "loser" already? He hasn't even had a freaking minute on the job.....you seem very intolerant about him and it's hard to figure out why. This country needed changes badly if for no other reason than to offer up hope, real or imagined, and he represents that in spades.
he won a landslide victory and he is a "loser"?? Unreal.

I think that skin color was a big reason, but more part of the whole "Obama is cool and different. Voting for him shows that I am progressive and that race isn't an issue" type of feeling that was present in many voters
|
I think you severly under estimate the average Americans abilities to vote on things BEYOND skin color and such things as being "cool". If that was the case...how the hell did Bush ever get elected? He was as far from "cool" as anyone can be..

I don't mind religious overtones when it's very secular.
I don't think it's a terrible thing to believe in a higher power, it can bring people together and encourage humility and charity.
It's when it's gets more specific that things go bad. I guess the argument can be made tough, that one encourages the other. That humankind (for the most part) has a problem with being faithful and tolerant at the same time.

I don't have any problem with religions and religiosity, but I don't see this the forum for it, secular or not. This isn't a religious ceremony, it's a ceremony to bring in the head of state for everyone in the US, whether religious or not.
