I wish him luck as well and hope that he not only lives up to the crazy expectations that people have for him but exceeds them.
The US and world needs some good, smart leadership right now and I hope that Obama can find the people to provide that.
I jut haven't seen anything that indicates that he will be able to do that.

I don't think that the majority of Americans voted for Obama because he is Black. And I don't think that his being Black makes him "cool" as Moon has suggested. However, that IS a huge part of what makes this a historic day and denying the importance of this event just makes you look foolish. I don't care if you don't like Obama because of his politics, but to deny the historical importance of a Black man taking the highest office in a country that was largely built on slavery, oppression, and racism towards Blacks is just asinine.

No I meant "haven't ever'
I don't know examples of gays being 'wiped out' although other posters have mentioned Nazi Germany.
My point was you could hide it ...
Whereas throughout history, people of race have been killed....

It's still persecution though, and you mentioned they haven't been persecuted.
Heck, Neo Nazis were targeting gays here in Calgary last year, killing one and injuring many. Wasington gay bars have been threatened with chemical warefare (in drinks) over the past few weeks.
Gays have and DO face violent persecution, the same as any other minority.

Back OT, wow, look at those crowds. That's twice the size of Calgary all gathered there!
Amazing!

Now that's an actual argument. Maybe you should stick to wording things like this, instead of "yeah I know you only like him because he's black."
..and to answer your argument, you're the one that seems to be focused on his skin colour. Why is that? Why is it that other people are able to ignore the colour of his skin and just see him as being the better man for the job (compared to McCain or Palin)? Why are you so convinced that he wouldn't have beaten McCain if he was white? Did you even watch any of the two-year race?
Edit: Actually, on second thought, I don't care. This day isn't about you.

Americans were a few votes and one more irregular heart beat away from having Palin as president... and you think Obama's the frightening option?

Well--no offense--but I haven't "seen anything that indicates" that you're even paying attention. But enjoy your foul mood, I guess. Seems to be what you're into.
When you come out, there's a whole complex world out here with nuances and issues and stuff that you may be interested in, though. Just a thought. You might just want to start by considering the possibility that there might be more to Obama than "being black."
Then again, I'm sure that you could graduate from Harvard Law at the top of your class, become the editor of the Harvard Law review, become a professor of constitutional law at the University of Chicago and get elected to the U.S. Senate in your sleep. So... you're right... he's just some dude who's black.

Enjoy the day Obama fans, as FAnin80 said for you guys it is about him today.
If he makes you as happy as it seems I would just ignore what one person like myself thinks. Makes me laugh how upset people get over this guy who in four years will be just another President.
Iowa_Flames_Fan: I did all that yesterday so I need to find something new to accomplish toady. hopefully, it will be a little more challenging.

Thanks for the well wishes. Bye!
Edit: This is a big day, and race-topics are always heated exchanges. It's unfortunate, but it just seems to work out that way. Have a good one, regardless!

Well estimates even before the crowd was fully formed said they would probably get 2 million. I'm sure we'll hear more estimates as it goes.
