You didn't notice this during the campaign? It's been crammed down our throats for 2 years now.

OK, I must be out of touch... So the new fashion statement is to be anti-Obama now? It's so hard keeping up with all these important, world-changing trends.

(This is the most excited I've ever been for anything even remotely connected to the United States of the Smaller Portion of North America. I'm actually even a little bit jealous. Congrats, Yanks!)

...and let's not forget the ever-important, ages-old, pre-inauguration tradition of swapping First Ladies...

Edit: I just noticed the looks on their faces... Michelle looks frazzled while Barbara looks completely shell-shocked. Haha.

Wow... the first thing that comes to mind over this is.... yawn.

Who cares? Yes, it is historic. So what? It's just another Tuesday. Give him his crown and let's move on. Hopefully he actually has a plan that involves a little more than saying "change" over and over again. Unfortunately (in these times anyway) our economy is very much tied to the US' and if he sucks he'll drag us down with him. If he's awesome, he'll pull us up. I'm hoping for the latter.

For those all bent out of shape about him being the first African American to become prez, I can honestly say that I hope that's not what Obama is about. Who cares... he needs to be the prez, not the first African American prez... he needs to make decisions and set policy, not make African American decisions and set African American policy...

I hope he's not as hyped about this as many of the fruits they show on TV are.

^^^ Agreed that shouldn't be what Obama is about and I don't think that's why people voted for him either (at least the majority of those who voted for him).

But I can't blame people for being excited, especially older African Americans who lived with racism and persecution on a daily basis.

It's one day, and I think it helps bring people together so I'm all for it. I can understand why some wouldn't be interested, but I can see how it is an important event to many.

The burden of being president will fall very quickly with what Bush is leaving behind. Might as well have a little fun now.

I dunno. I think the black thing is pretty cool. I can't, in a million years, begin to imagine what black people (and other races) went through at different times in their lives. This is an awesome moment for them, and I'm pretty stoked that I got to see it in my lifetime.

Putting that aside, what is exciting (to me) is that Obama comes across as not being an idiot, and he also appears to be a nice guy with some humility and a sense of purpose.

Exactly. At the end of the day he isn't George W. Bush and that should excite the entire world (to some extent).

Probably two reasons:
1) The security for this one is probably going to be much tighter than most events like this
2) Much of the recession and deepening of the recession is caused by loss of confidence and loss of hope. If nothing else this is a symbol of both for a lot of people out there so its probably a good idea to get the message out and advertise the hell out of it. Who knows - could in some very minor way be the start of a turn around.

I get the whole big brother thing. I just dont think it's so important that you have Canadians like my boss taking the day off of work to watch it.

Oh I don't think anyone will ever have to worry about running out of things to blame George W. Bush for.

Haha, well that's fair. I get that. Still, that's the perks about being the boss right?
