a hometown expression: go pi$$ up a rope

not sure of the origin, but it means "go away"

"So hungry I could eat a horse."

"Right as rain."

"That drives me up the wall."

My mom would describe overtly homosexual people by saying "as gay as the day is long". Baffling. It's got a nice ring to it, though.

I'm a fan of sayings with their roots in brutal rituals of public mutilation that have come to mean almost nothing at all over time...

like "tarred with the same brush."

This saying always reminds me of a teacher I had in high school. I skipped his class one day to go on the walkout (some of you may remember the lame ass protest high school students put on when Klein started cutting education funding)... Anyway, the next day my teacher asked me why I skipped his class and I told him that I went on the walkout. He asked what, exactly, was I protesting, and I fumbled and said education cuts. Total bull shiz, I was just skipping class and participating in a mass exodus of kids... Teacher looks me square in the eye and tells me that I'm phony as a three dollar bill. Man, that actually hurt. And it had an effect. I seriously felt pretty stupid for joining a protest what I didn't even care about the cause.
You did it, Mr. Garagan!!

FTR, the walkout was a blast. At least half the students from the three high schools in the area converged on McLeod trail and just took over.
