Default Rogers Blackberry in the UK

Heading to the UK, wondering about having my phone/blackberry with me.
It's an 8800.

I wouldn't mind using pins/messenger to keep in touch with some people. But phone/email functions I could scrap.

Any suggestions? Experiences? Can / Can't do's?

You can do all, but Rogers will charge you up the **** for them in roaming fees, even for texts. I came home from a month in Europe using my Rogers sim card and my bill was $300...and I maybe sent out 5-10 texts a day. Hardly ever used the actual phone functions.

I've heard a roaming plan will include free PIN's?

I'll have to confirm that with some guys at work... they use the Blackberry for PIN's exclusively while overseas to save money.

If it is your personal phone, you could unlock it and then buy a local SIM...PINs are not tied to the SIM (AFAIK) so you should be able to send PINS.

Yeah, that's all I want to do. But, that requires wireless. Can I disable checking for email, or...

Yeah, I don't want to use email/phone. But do want to use PIN. is that possible?
