GM Patel is very proud to introduce the newest member of the Ducks,
Niklas Lidstrom!
In a deal with the Isles, the Ducks have acquired the best D-man in the NHL, it was a costly trade but something that we feel gives us a great shot at contending this season.
While we gave up 2 very good prospects and a stable dman in martin, we feel that pickard is still 3-4 years away at least. Bernier and Pickard however are still 2 top goalie prospects, hopefully this 8OV upgrade offsets that though.
These talks were tough but fun, thanks to the Isles for entertaining talks.

I hate it and think you could have done better...no, I'm not bitter, why do you ask?
In all honesty, it seems like a fair deal for both and a good start to the rebuild on the Isle.

Huge move, I was wondering when the Isles were going to start the rebuild.
I like this move both for the Ducks and the Isles. The Ducks get the best D-Man in the game and this should help them immensely. That's a big 8 OVR upgrade, that's for sure.
As for the Isles, they get Martin who is the #1 d-man in Jersey. Whether he should be the #1 guy there is a different argument, but he's a reliable d-man. Bernier should have a chance as a starter for the Kings next year; they've done a good job letting him mature at a reasonable pace. Pickard is another solid tender but he really won't be a factor for a few years.
Overall, I think it's a pretty even deal.

I think you coulda got a bit more as well, or at least diversified a bit and got a good forward prospect instead of two G prospects

Is there a big name on the market that the Ducks won't be adding this year?

At the same time, it is pretty easy to flip a solid goalie prospect for a solid forward prospect.

First of all, they were the idiots that were smarter than 27 other GM's who didn't even make an offer. Secondly, I didn't bow out, but a deal was struck while I was in the middle of making another offer.

True enough, but the Ducks have Backlund, Wilson and Doughty. I'd much rather have one of them over Pickard

All of those are on a level above pickard, had I had a lateral prospect fwd I'm sure Kev would have asked for it. He did bring up backlund but I said no, I'm a homer and I think backlund is worth more because he is a lot closer to the NHL then pickard so I didn't want to add a guy of more value, I'd rather just lose both guys at the same position.

Solid deal I think. Lidstrom clearly the best player, and there's no reason he can't keep playing and retain a high rating for years.
But the Isles get some good assets back. Martin is a solid, #1 NHL defenseman. He's got some value. And getting 2 top goalie prospects will help the Isles a lot in the next year or 2. Goalies are hard to find and they might have just landed to NHLers at that position in one deal.

I believe in the Pony Power

Yup good for both organizations - the Isle needed to make this type of deal and commit to a proper rebuild.
